Today’s prompt- Expect

go

Expect –
regard as likely to happen
anticipate await

Oh, how often I have expected something to happen
birthdays,
Christmas,
a wedding,
the births of my five babies.

Many times
the happenings were beyond my expectations.
Most of the time, in fact,
they were happily beyond my expectations.

BUT
those times with hard results,
those times of heart rendering results
those times when my expectations were shattered.

What then . . .

This I recall to mind,
therefore I have hope.
Lamentations 3:21

I remember:
in the hard times – I was never alone.

in the heart rendering times = He healed my broken heart.

in the shattered times – He picked up the broken pieces,
set them back on the potter’s wheel
and created a new vessel fir His use,

I’ve learned to leave my expectations in God’s hands.

Psalm 62:5
My soul, wait thou only upon God;
for my expectation is from him.

There is none but him in whom thou canst safely trust; and to get his help, resign thyself into his hands; be subject to him, and be silent before him. . .
Clarke’s Commentary

We are on vacation and just visited Niagara Falls.
The Almighty God who created this,
can easily and faithfully take care of my expectations.

“fearfully and wonderfully made”

Psalms 139:14
I will praise thee;
for I am fearfully and wonderfully made:
marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.

How would you answer this multiple-choice question?

  • a coincidental collision of particles.
  • an accidental evolution of molecules.
  • soulless flotsam in the universe,
  • “fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Don’t dull your life by missing this point:
You are more than statistical chance,
more than a marriage of heredity and society,
more than a confluence of inherited chromosomes
and childhood trauma.
More than a walking weather vane whipped about
by the cold winds of fate.
Thanks to God you have been
“sculpted from nothing into something”
(Psalms 139:15MSG)
Cure for the Common Life, Max Lucado

Psalms 139:15-18
My substance was not hid from thee,
when I was made in secret,
and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect;
and in thy book all my members were written,
which in continuance were fashioned,
when as yet there was none of them.
How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God!
how great is the sum of them!
If I should count them,
they are more in number than the sand:
when I awake,
I am still with thee.

Glorify God Today

444_jesus_teaching_disciples

Christ taught his followers how to glorify God by His example.

John 17 is Christ’s prayer for his disciples before He goes to Gethsemene. From Christ’s words we find how He glorified His Father; we also find how we can glorify our Father.

John 17:1 These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:

John 17:4 I have glorified thee on the earth:
I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.

Christ was always obedient to the will of the Father.

Joh 17:6-7 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word. Now they have known that all things whatsoever thou hast given me are of thee.

Definition – Manifest – readily perceived by the senses and especially by the sense of sight: easily understood or recognized by the mind
Christ showed his followers plainly by words and actions how to glorify God

John 17:8 For I have given unto them the words which thou gavest me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came out from thee, and they have believed that thou didst send me.

Christ spoke differently than the people of the day.
His speech glorified God.

John 17:26 And I have declared unto them thy name, and will declare it: that the love wherewith thou hast loved me may be in them, and I in them.

Definition – Declare – to make evident: show, to state emphatically: affirm, to avow one’s opinion or support
Christ showed openly that He was doing the will of the Father

Scripture text and most of the thoughts from December 29 evening lesson.
I added definitions.
