Today’s thought – Grace and Faith

Lomom away day 2 038Love  feeling soft sand . . .

Good Afternoon,

We walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Picture salvation as a house that you live in.

It provides you with protection. It is stocked with food and drink that will last forever. It never decays or crumbles. Its windows open onto vistas of glory.

God built it at great cost to himself and to his Son, and he gave it to you.

The “purchase” agreement is called a “new covenant.” The terms read: “This house shall become and remain yours if you will receive it as a gift and take delight in the Father and the Son as they inhabit the house with you. You shall not profane the house of God by sheltering other gods nor turn your heart away after other treasures.”

Would it not be foolish to say yes to this agreement, and then hire a lawyer to draw up an amortization schedule with monthly payments in the hopes of somehow balancing accounts?

You would be treating the house no longer as a gift, but a purchase. God would no longer be the free benefactor. And you would be enslaved to a new set of demands that he never dreamed of putting on you.

If grace is to be free — which is the very meaning of grace — we cannot view it as something to be repaid. Selected

His Grace is new . . . every Today

Today’s thought – Thou Shalt Cry

may25 009The weather is hot here at Cozy Acres.
I’m remembering the cool of the ocean.

Good Morning

Isaiah 58:9
Then shalt thou call,
and the Lord shall answer;
thou shalt cry,
and he shall say,
Here I am.

“He will be very gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry.”
That has comforted me often,
more than any promise of answer;
it includes answers,
and a great deal more besides;
it tells us what He is towards us,
and that is more than what He will do.
And the “cry” is not long, connected, thoughtful prayers,
a cry is just an unworded dart upwardsof the heart,
and at that “voice” He will be very gracious.
What a smile there is in these words!

Today’s thought – Blessing by Clinging

may25 004
Good Morning

Genesis 32:24-29
24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. 25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. 26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. 27 And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. 29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

Jacob got the victory and the blessing
not by wrestling, but by clinging.
His limb was out of joint and he could struggle no longer,
but he would not let go.
Unable to wrestle,
he wound his arms around the neck of his mysterious antagonist
and hung all his helpless weight until at last he conquered.

We will not get victory in prayer
until we too cease our struggling,
giving up our own will
and throw our arms about our Father’s neck in clinging faith.

What can puny human strength take by force
out of the hand of Omnipotence?
Can we wrest blessing by force from God.
It is never the violence of willfulness that prevails with God.
It is the might of clinging faith,
that gets the blessing and the victories.
It is not when we press and urge our own will,
but when humility and trust unite in saying,
“Not my will, but Thine.”
We are strong with God only in the degree
that self is conquered and is dead.
Not by wrestling,
but by clinging can we get the blessing.

February 26, Today’s thought – No Further

733982_10200543440539440_787300141_nWhat I saw about 4:00pm

Good Morning

Monday I took a day trip with my daughter, Margaret
and her three kidlets to Monterey, CA. They went to
Monterey Bay Aquarium with a home school group.
I was the driver.
I love to drive on road trips, in fact I volunteered.

The ocean restores my soul.
The ocean restores my perspective of life.

I stand on the shore.
I stand gazing at all that is going on around me.
I tremble.
I fret.
I am at my wit’s end.

The ocean as it rolls in with such might and power
reminds me of life’s trials and burdens.
The ocean swells.
The ocean roars.
The ocean screams you have no strength compared to me.

I recognize my weakness.
I tremble.
I fret.
I am at my wit’s end.
I also stand fast.

The ocean rises up and crashes down.
The spray rises up and drenches everything.
The foam mocks.

I still stand and I watch the waves come close rushing.

I watch the wave fall.
I watch the wave quiet.
I watch the wave calm.

I look at my feet.
the  water is gently caressing my toes.

And God said,
“Hitherto shalt thou come,
BUT no further;
and here shall thy proud waves be stayed.” . .Job 38:11

I stole the pictures from Margaret.
