I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

This Christmas carol is one of my favorites.
Sometimes life does seem in despair, but there is still hope, God is still in control, I am still His child.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day

I heard the bells on Christmas Day
Their old familiar carols play
And wild and sweet the words repeat
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

And in despair I bowed my head
There is no peace on earth I said
For hate is strong and mocks the song
Of peace on earth, good will to men.

Then pealed the bells more loud and deep,
God is not dead, nor doth he sleep.
The wrong shall fail, the right prevail
With peace on earth, good will to men.

– Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Psalms 43:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Speak up or Shut up

December 18

Evening Tidbit’s are back

You have to speak up to be heard – but
you have to shut up to be appreciated.

Proverbs 17:28
Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.

Ode to Joy

Ode to Joy

Joyful, joyful
We adore Thee
God of glory
Lord of love
Hearts unfold like flowers before Thee
Hail Thee to the sun above
Melt the clouds of sin and sadness
Drive the dark of doubt away
Giver of immortal gladness
Fill us with the light of day

Mortals join the mighty chorus
Which the morning stars began
Father love is reigning o’er us
Brother love binds man to man
Ever singing march we onward
Victors in the midst of strife
Joyful music lifts us Son ward
In the triumph song of life

The Road to Joy

Joy is the emotion evoked by well-being, success, or good fortune or by the prospect of possessing what one desires. See evoked, the prospect, a road, a journey, a walk; not all flat and smooth, not at sunny and fresh. I want to persevere until I get there. I don’t want to be side=tracked because the way isn’t as I imagined. What ever it is that you desire keeping walking until you get there.

I had a simple writing and art journal prompt yesterday
from the Bliss Journaling Yahoogroup I belong to –
– “Joy” – which always seems to lead me into
singing Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.”

I pulled out my watercolor moleskine and attempted
to mix a purple from two different hues and instead, got
a sort of brown, not so pretty color which I meant
to paint into a Road of Sorts.

The phrase “Ode to Joy” was replaced by “Road to Joy”
and off my mind, heart, and paintbrush went, skipping,
hopping and occasionally stumbling or needing to rest,
to catch my breath.

Here is a photo of my journal pages:

The Road to Joy is dappled with mud, not daisies as a
lesser soul might suspect.

The Road to Joy is dirty, with twists and turns and rocks
and craters and lies and disapproval

The Road to Joy is fed by forgiveness and light, packages
tied up in hope and trust and movement

The Road is big and tall and complete, even and especially
in moments of active, intentional stillness.

The Road to Joy is paved with stones of grace, of passion,
of loss and discovery and tears and brokenness that becomes
whole and breaks again.

The Road to Joy passes by your door and my door and his
and hers and theirs as well.

The Road to Joy is in conversation, it is in argument, it
is in laughter and winks and open hands and arms
and tapping toes.

………….

The Road to Joy Is?

The Road to Joy is….

The. Road. To. Joy. Is…

Bernstein said, “Beethoven was a creature of grace and
innocence and trust – hope and future and immortality. ”
Sort of like me. Sort of like you.

Your road to joy is…..

John 15:8-11 Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples. As the Father hath loved me, so have I loved you: continue ye in my love. If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father’s commandments, and abide in his love. These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.

Thanksgiving Recap

Thanksgiving was good this year. We broke in a new location, Camp Del Oro near Nevada City, CA. Monica, a niece, works there full time in the office, and Darrel works with the kids in the summer.Kitchen was easy to use and dining /meeting room and lodging were very comfortable.
The Crain mother, siblings and families, (plus anyone else shows up) start their visiting Wednesday evening and we go home after cleaning up Saturday morning.
Thursday morning some went on a hike with Darrel in the lead. After lunch David arranged target practice, many guns were brought to show off and try out. Young and old, male and female shot the guts out of large zucchini, narly looking crooked neck squash, apples and a stuffed pig. 48 sat down to turkey dinner.
For entertainment as if people watching wasn’t enough, Darrel received the honor of a talking stick, and continued to talk. We couldn’t tell there was any improvement having received the stick.
Friday a group went to a used book store hosted by Ben. Another group went on another walk. The children were taken outside, even though there was danger of rain, to use up Crain energy; when back inside not of lot of difference in the energy level was seen.
Two jigsaw puzzles were put together, many hands of May I, Uno, SkipBo, Crown 5 were played. Apples to Apples provided laughs.
Saturday Morning we woke up to no electricity. Fortunately, the dining room had a large fireplace, and the kitchen a gas stove. Water was heated for tea, cocoa and dish washing. Eggs were scrambled. Leftover ham, red-skinned potatoes, toast and biscuits were heated, and gravy made from bacon drippings. Equaling a breakfast worth the thanks. With many willing hands, cleanup was accomplished and we were on the way home before noon.
Thanksgiving with the Crains is a tradition that is worth the effort it takes to make it continue, Many memories are made and friendships strengthened. I’m thankful I’m a part of this clan.

Thanksgiving food for thought:

Be thankful that you don’t already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?

Be thankful when you don’t know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.

Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.

Be thankful for each new challenge,
because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes.
They will teach you valuable lessons.

Be thankful when you’re tired and weary,
because it means you’ve made a difference.

It’s easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who
are also thankful for the setbacks.

Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,
and they can become your blessings.

Count Your Blessings

As Thanksgiving draws near, my mind has gone often to the things for which I am thankful. If you know anything about me, you know that being thankful is a theme of mine. I think a thankful heart is to be nurtured and exercised.

Today let’s count our blessings. Can we write a list of 100 things we are thankful for? I’ll start mine today and post it later.

Count your blessings instead of your crosses;
Count your gains instead of your losses.
Count your joys instead of your woes;
Count your friends instead of your foes.
Count your smiles instead of your tears;
Count your courage instead of your fears.
Count your full years instead of your lean;
Count your kind deeds instead of your mean.
Count your health instead of your wealth;
Count on God instead of yourself.

It’s ending

Most of my awake hours this week has again been doing data entry work at Elmers. Posting here and Today’s thoughts has not had proper attention. Hopefully I’ll be able to get back in place when I’m not working until 10:00pm most nights. The work hasn’t been hard, just alot, two horizontal file drawers three feet wide plus. The end is in sight. I’m thankful.

We made it through …

last week as we entered bills and invoices into Quickbooks. I worked about 60 hours. We should finish up this week then to run reports and double check stuff. Mary has been entering payroll, that is quite a job since it all has to match with payroll reports. I’m very thankful for what was accomplished. This is certainly a way to reacquaint my self with QB.

Change Your Mind

Let Him change Your Mind

God …changes the man by changing the mind. And how does it happen?
By…considering the glory of Christ…
To behold him is to become like him. As Christ dominates your thoughts, he
changes you from one degree of glory to another until–hang on!–you are
ready to live with him.
Heaven is the land of sinless minds…Absolute trust. No fear or anger. Shame
and second-guessing are practices of a prior life. Heaven will be wonderful,
not because the street are gold, but because our thoughts are pure.
So what are you waiting on?…Give him your best thoughts, and see if he
doesn’t change your mind. Next Door Savior Max Lucado

Set your mind on the things above,
Not on the things that are on earth.

One Touch of His Hands

His Touch

One touch of Your hands
And the blind can see
One touch of Your hands
And the prisoner is free
With just one touch
You calm the sea
Reach out, Dear Lord
Touch me.

One touch of Your hands
And the dead are raised
One touch of Your hands
And sinners are saved
With just one touch
The lame run free
Reach out, Dear Lord
Touch me.

One touch of Your hands
And the deaf hear song
One touch of Your hands
And the weak are strong
With just one touch
Evil bends its knee
Reach out, Dear Lord
Touch me.

Luke 18:36-43
And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.

“Peace, be still.”

Blessed quietness, Holy quietness
Blest assurance in my soul.
On the stormy sea, He speaks peace to me,
And the billows cease to roll.

When Jesus was on the boat with His disciples in the storm, they wondered “Carest thou not that we perish?!” Jesus spoke “Peace, be still.”
I’m looking for that same still in our storms

Now is the time to step up to the plate for ELMERS. We have to change back to Quickbooks, new program isn’t working out. My job is data entry from April to present. Yesterday  was about 13 hours and today started about 7:30. I may not have alot of time to post fun things here, but I keep thinking about what I would like to say.
