Today’s thought – Three Common Traits

Good Morning

Galatians 5:25
If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

What goes into the Christian life?
Many traditions of the faith have answered that question
with certain emphases and nuances, but three common traits
have always been part of the Christian walk:
Faith, trust and obedience.

FAITH is a belief in the reality of God,
the goodness and love of God,
and the relationship God desires to have with us.
“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for
and certain of what we do not see” Hebrews 11:1 NIV

TRUST is an ongoing expression of faith;
it is placing our confidence in God
and depending on Him every step of the way.
It is our basis for assurance that God is
with us in all circumstances of life.
“Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him.” Job 13:15 NIV

OBEDIENCE is when we acknowledge that
Jesus is not only our Savior–but our Lord.
It is the full of expression of faith,
where we trust God so much
we submit to His commands, His ways, His will.
“But if we walk in the light,
as he is in the light,
we have fellowship with one another,
and the blood of Jesus, his son,
purifies us fro all sin.” John 1:7 NIV

God is God.
Because He is God.
He is worthy of my trust and obedience.
I will find rest nowhere
but in His holy will,
a will that is unspeakably beyond my largest notions
of what He is up to.

Today’s thought – Only a Cup of Water?

july 24 flowers 009Zinnias are happy flowers.

Good Morning

Matthew 10:42
And whosoever shall give to drink unto one of these little ones a cup of cold water only in the name of a disciple, verily I say unto you, he shall in no wise lose his reward.

What am I to do?
I expect to pass through this world but once.
Any good work, therefore,
any kindness or any service
I can render to any soul of man or animal,
let me do it now.
Let me not neglect or defer it,
for I shall not pass this way again.
~~An Old Quaker Saying.

It isn’t the thing you do, dear,
It’s the thing you leave undone,
Which gives you the bitter heartache
At the setting of the sun;
The tender word unspoken,
The letter you did not write,
The flower you might have sent, dear,
Are your haunting ghosts at night.

The stone you might have lifted
Out of your brother’s way,
The bit of heartsome counsel
You were hurried too much to say;
The loving touch of the hand, dear
The gentle and winsome tone,
That you had no time or thought for
With troubles enough of your own.

These little acts of kindness,
So easily out of mind,
These chances to be angels,
Which even mortals find–
They come in night and silence,
Each chill reproachful wraith,
When hope is faint and flagging,
And a blight has dropped on faith.

For life is all too short, dear,
And sorrow is all too great,
To suffer our sallow compassion
That tarries until to late.
And it’s not the thing you do, dear,
It’s the thing you leave undone,
Which gives you the bitter heartache,,
At the setting of the sun.
~~Adelaide Procter.

John 9:4
I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

While it is day. . .

Today’s thought – Jesus Loves Me . . . Why?

july 24 flowers 013the Farmer  is still picking raspberries!

Good Morning

Why Should He Love Me So?

John 13:1
“Jesus, having loved His own who were in the world, He loved them to the end.”

Have you ever wondered,
Why should He love you so?
If one views God only as being immense,
then it is not likely such a one would
ever consider how much God loves them.
Immensity makes God too big,
too austere,
too preoccupied with the universe
to ever give any serious thought
to someone who is so comparatively insignificant.

But, God is not immense — He is infinite.
There is a marvelous difference.
F.W. Boreham wrote of
“the essential difference between immensity and infinity.
The former has limits,” he said,
“while the latter has none.”

Because God is infinite — He is unlimited!
He can fill the universe with His presence,
and yet give full regard to the humblest of people.
Even so as to number the very hairs on our heads!
But, why should He love me so?

The answer is — He can do nothing else!
Years ago Miles Stanford wrote,
“God’s love functions according to the quality of its nature,
not according to the quality of that toward which it is directed.”

So, why should He love me so?
He is God — that’s why.

Today’s thought – Windows of Heaven

july 24 flowers 011 Tis the season of Zinnias!

Good Morning

Malachi 3:10
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.

What is God saying here but this:
“My child, I still have windows in Heaven.
They are yet in service.
The bolts slide as easily as of old.
The hinges have not grown rusty.
I would rather fling them open and pour forth,
than keep them shut and hold back.
I opened them for Moses, and the sea parted.
I opened them for Joshua, and Jordan rolled back.
I opened them for Gideon, and hosts fled.
I will open them for you–if you will only let me.
On this side of the windows,
Heaven is the same rich storehouse as of old.
The fountains and streams still overflow.
The treasure rooms are still bursting with gifts.
The lack is not on MY side.
It is on yours.
I am waiting.
Prove Me now.
Fulfill the conditions on your part.
Bring in the tithes.
Give Me a chance.

Today’s thought- The Master’s Word, “Stand Still”

july 23 001By my front door

Good Afternoon,
Exodus 14:13
“Stand still, and see the salvation of the Lord.”

These words contain God’s command to the believer
when he is reduced to great straits
and brought into extraordinary difficulties.
He cannot retreat; he cannot go forward;
he is shut up on the right hand and on the left;
what is he now to do?

The Master’s word to him is, “Stand still.”
It will be well for him if at such times
he listens only to his Master’s word,
for other and evil advisers come with their suggestions.

Despair whispers, “Lie down and die; give it all up.”
But God would have us put on a cheerful courage,
and even in our worst times,
rejoice in his love and faithfulness.

Cowardice says, “Retreat; go back to the worldling’s way of action;
you cannot play the Christian’s part, it is too difficult.
Relinquish your principles.”

But, however much Satan may urge this course upon you,
you cannot follow it if you are a child of God.
His divine fiat has bid thee go from strength to strength,
and so thou shalt,
and neither death nor hell shall turn thee from thy course.
What, if for a while thou art called to stand still,
yet this is but to renew thy strength for some greater advance in due time.

Precipitancy cries, “Do something.
Stir yourself; to stand still and wait, is sheer idleness.”
We must be doing something at once-
we must do it so we think-
instead of looking to the Lord,
who will not only do something but will do everything.

Presumption boasts, “If the sea be before you,
march into it and expect a miracle.”

But Faith listens neither to Presumption,
nor to Despair, nor to Cowardice, nor to Precipitancy,
but it hears God say, “Stand still,”
and immovable as a rock it stands.
“Stand still;”-
keep the posture of an upright man,
ready for action,
expecting further orders,
cheerfully and patiently
awaiting the directing voice;
and it will not be long ere God shall say to you,
as distinctly as Moses said it to the people of Israel,
“Go forward.”
~~~Spurgeon
Stand quietly, if those are your orders . . .Today
Today’s thought – Praise Him!
july 23 004Pineapple blossom, looks like a lily to me.
Good Morning
1Timothy 1:17
To the King that rules forever,
who will never die,
who cannot be see,
the only God,
be honor and glory forever and ever.NCV
The whole purpose of coming before the King is to praise Him,
to live in recognition of his splendor.
Praise —
lifting up our hearts and hands,
exulting with our voices,
singing his praises —
is the occupation of those who dwell in the kingdom.
Praise is the highest occupation of any being.
What happens when we praise the Father?
We reestablish the proper chain of command;
we recognize that the King is on the throne and
that He has saved His people.
Walking with the Savior, Max Lucado
1Timothy 1:17
Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.
Today’s thought – Think on these Things
apr11 009There is just something special about a rosebud.
Good Morning
Philippians 4:8
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
It is not what one does,
nor is it what one says,
but it is what one thinks that makes the man.
What one thinks determines what he will say and do.
A person may try to make his words and actions
to be much different than he actually thinks
but it will be all in vain.
For it is still the thoughts
that manage to break through the actions and the words
regardless how closely they are guarded.
Others can always see the soul when it is off guard.
Paul knew the human mind and character very well.
He suggests that we are to think on all things
that are true, honorable, just, pure, lovely,
and well esteemed, all virtue, all things praiseworthy;
and as these are allowed to dwell in our thoughts,
they cannot help but transform us into their likeness.
Oh, be careful little mind what you think . . . Today
Today’s thought – If Anyone Serves
july 15, pics from Gma c 002These make me smile
Good Morning
1Peter 4:11
If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To Him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen. (translation unknown)
It was only a couple of pennies,
but her gift continues to give through the centuries
as a model of humble and generous sharing.
She was a widow who didn’t give
with fanfare or from a surplus overflow.
But she gave from her heat and
God made something tiny
grow into something large and beautiful.
(Mark 12:41-43)
A young boy shared a little bread and a few fish and it fed thousands.
God knows how to multiply!
It doesn’t matter what size your gift is.
You might not have much money or influence;
you may not have tremendous talents or gifts;
you might feel like you’re out of energy right now.
But if you give out of a loving heart,
a humble heart, a compassionate heart,
God can take something small
and turn it into something great.
1Peter 4:11
If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. KJV
Today’s thought – Tear Up Your Itinerary
july 15, pics from Gma c 022
july 15, pics from Gma c 021the Farmer’s grapes are  ripening
Good Morning
Hebrews 11:8
By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went.
It is by no means enough to set out cheerfully
with your God on any venture of faith.
Tear into smallest pieces your itinerary
which your imagination may have drawn up.
Nothing will fall out as you expect.
Your guide will keep to no beaten path.
He will lead you by a way
such you have never dreamed your eyes
would look upon.
He knows no fear,
and He expects you to fear
nothing while He is with you.
Joshua 1:9
Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.
Today’s thought – The Name and Fame of Jesus
july 15, pics from Gma c 025One 72-foot row of okra, next a 72-foot row of cucumbers,
when the Farmer gardens; he really gardens!
Good Morning
Acts 4:12
“There is salvation in no other, for there is none other name under heaven given among men whereby we must be saved”
There is only one name that opens heaven’s doors
and God’s heart—the name of Jesus.
There is only one name that breaks the power of sin
and sets the captive free—the name of Jesus.
There is only one name worthy of all praise,
and deserving of your allegiance—the name of Jesus.
Early on in His public ministry
the name and fame of Jesus spread
like a prairie fire on a windy day.
People all throughout the region—rich and poor,
king and commoner, Jew and Gentile—all heard of Him;
for His fame was ever-increasing.
His death on the Cross did not have the effect
the rulers of the day had hoped.
He rose from the dead
and His followers became invincible in their faith—
so much in fact that in ever-widening circles
the number of disciples increased vastly in Jerusalem;
and many of the Jewish priests were themselves converted as well.
Paul the Apostle, a few years later wrote,
“Finally, dear brothers, as I come to the end of this letter,
I ask you to pray for us.
Pray first that the Lord’s message will spread rapidly
and triumph wherever it goes,
winning converts everywhere as it did when it came to you”
(2 Thessalonians 3:1, Living Bible).
Jesus Christ!
He is peerless in His exaltation,
unrivaled in His Lordship,
incomparable in His grace,
invincible in His power,
unassisted in His work as Redeemer,
matchless in His mercy,
adored in His glory
and worshipped in the beauty of His holiness.
In His birth is our significance.
In His life is our example.
In His death is our forgiveness.
In His resurrection is our hope.
In His Second Coming is our consummate glory!
Isaiah spoke for us all when he said,
“Lord, Your name and renown are the desire of our hearts”
(Isaiah 28:8, NIV).
Friends, we live in a fallen world
where hostilities toward God run high and hot.
For this reason we must become men and women
of vision, passion, discipline and risk—laying ourselves out
for the high honor of one Name alone…
the name of Jesus.
Today’s thought – It Takes God Time
july 15, pics from Gma c 026Canteloupes are a growing.
Good Morning
Psalms 37:5
And He shall bring it to pass.
It takes God time to answer prayer.
We often fail to give God a chance in this respect.
It takes time for God to paint a rose.
It takes time for God to grow an oak.
It takes time for God to make bread from wheat fields.
He takes the earth.
He pulverizes.
He softens.
He enriches.
He wets with showers and dews.
He warms with life.
He gives the blade, the stock, the amber grain,
and then at last the bread for the hungry.
All this takes time.
Therefore we sow, and till,
and wait, and trust,
until all God’s purpose has been wrought out.
We Give God a chance in this matter of time.
We need to learn this same lesson in our prayer life.
It takes God time to answer prayer.
Today’s thought – As He Walked
july 12 001Summer Blossoms
Good Morning
1 John 2:6
He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk,
even as he walked.
To know Christ is the way to grow in holiness.
Christianity is not a religion of rules.
It is a religion of the divine example.
Try to follow the blessed steps of the most holy life.
Take His advice.
Ask yourself,
in the moment of perplexity, or temptation,
what would He do if He were here?
Nothing else will so surely lead us
into the way of holy living.
~~~George Hodges

1 John 2:6, Amplified Bible
Whoever says he abides in Him ought [as a personal debt] to walk and conduct himself in the same way in which He walked and conducted Himself.

Follow His steps . . . Today

Today’s thought – No ‘Too Lates’

july11 001More of the Farmers’ cactus blossoms

Good Morning

Song of Solomon 5:6
I opened to my beloved; but my beloved had withdrawn himself,
and was gone: my soul failed when he spake: I sought him,
but I could not find him; I called him, but he gave me no answer.

The Lord, when He hath given great faith,
hath been know to try it by long delayings.
He has suffered His servants’ voices to echo
in their ears as from a brazen sky.
They have knocked at the golden gate,
but it has remained unmovable,
as though it were rusted upon its hinges.
Like Jeremiah, they have cried,

Thou has covered thyself with a cloud,
that our prayer should not pass through
.”

Thus have true saints continued long
in patient waiting without reply,
not because their prayers were not vehement,
nor because they were unaccepted,
but because it so pleased Him who is a Sovereign,
and who gives according to His own pleasure.
It it pleases Him to bid our patience exercise itself,
shall He not do as He will with His own!

No prayer is lost.
Praying breath was never spent in vain.
There is no such thing as prayer
unanswered or unnoticed by God,
and some things that we count refusals
or denials are simply delays.
~~~H. Bonar
Psalm 22:24
For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;  neither hath he hid his face from him; but when he cried unto him, he heard.
Christ sometimes delays His help
that He may try our faith and quicken our prayers.
The boat may be covered with the waves,
and He sleeps on;
but He will wake up before it sinks.
He sleeps, but He never oversleeps;
and there are not “too lates” with Him.
~~~Alexander Maclaren
