Three on Thursday – Evidence of Fall

or Friday if you’ve procrastinated like I did, again.

Fall is my favorite season.
Cool days and cooler nights,
a relief after Sacramento summer days.
I found three evidences that it will soon be fall.

This vine, so dainty and fine, changes into its fall colors gently.
I don’t know its name.

Zucchini, cucumbers and marigolds have had it,
after working so hard all summer long!

Sunflowers, a summertime favorite. with her happy faces.
In the fall become food for the birds.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-2
To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born,
and a time to die;
a time to plant,
and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

The Bible, God’s Word of Life

Do you have a Bible?

If so, how old is your Bible?

Do know where your Bible is?

Is to your Bible dusty?

Are the pages still crisp and pristine?

Or are the pages a bit limp, a bit frayed?

Are the words underlined,
verses dated or marked with a star?

Are there notes and definitions in the margins?

How does it fit in your hand?

Does it feel comfortable or a little strange?

In church one evening not long ago,
as I bent my head in prayer,
I saw on the pew in front of me, this Bible.

Later I asked, “How long have you had this Bible?”
She laughed, “About 25 years.”
Many times I’ve seen this sister reading her Bible
before service started while those around her chatted,
greeting one another.

My Bible is well used,
but it does not have the print of my thumb worn
in the cover from holding the Word of God – – –
For long periods of time
Tightly – without wavering
Daily, many times during the day
In good times,
Hard times,
Fearful times,
Times of sickness,
Times of death
Times of joy and victory.

Only with our closest friends
do we have long, intense, soul searching conversations,
receiving and giving encouragement,
comfort, direction, and yes, even correction.

Is Jesus our closest friend?
How much time do we spend holding on to Him?

Thy word is a lamp unto my feet,
and a light unto my path.
Psalm 119:105

One Candle

Jan2913 003

19th century rabbi Isreal Salanter
told the story of being inspired
by the words of a shoemaker
working late into the night
“As long as the candle is burning
it’s still possible to mend.”

Matthew 5:14-16
“You are the light of [Christ to] the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden, nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Let your light shine before men . . .AMP

Sunday Bible Reading Psalm 9:7-10

Autumn Spider Lilies

Psalm 9:7-10
But the LORD shall endure for ever:
he hath prepared his throne for judgment.
And he shall judge the world in righteousness,
he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness.
The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed,
a refuge in times of trouble.
And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee:
for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.

Five Minute Friday, Rain

Today’s prompt – RAIN

Go . . .

“Rain, Rain, go away. Come again another day.”

“April Showers bring May Flowers.”

“Into every life some rain must fall.”

“The rain falls on the just and the unjust.”

So many sayings about rain.
showing rain’s many faces
Gentle and warm
Torrential in a hurricane
Icy like sleet in a winter storm
Refreshing on a summer’s day

I welcome rain.
I love that ‘first’ rain smell.

Petrichor – “A pleasant, distinctive smell frequently accompanying the first rain
after a long period of warm, dry weather in certain regions.”

I love to listen to the sounds of rain on our RV’s metal roof.
I love rain’s friends – thunder and lightening
What a time they have playing in the heavens.
I find comfort in that ‘after rain’ promise from God.

Genesis 9:16
And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it,
that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God
and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth

Stop.

Three on Thursday – Red

or Friday if you’ve procrastinated like I did.

Today I found three RED things in my garden.

Spider Lilies
Daffodils and Jonquils herald spring,
popping up in places of hiding.
Spider Lilies are my fore teller of Autumn, my favorite season.

Geraniums
the Farmer calls them ‘stinky flowers’.
I love their constant blooming through the spring and summer.
Sometimes not many blossoms,
but always a little color to make me smile.

Lantana
Now there is a happy flower!
Bright and cheery,
waving in the breeze.
Autumn is the time they shine
as many other flowers are at the end of their glory.

Matthew 6 28-29
And why take ye thought for raiment?
Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow; they toil not,
neither do they spin:
And yet I say unto you,
That even Solomon in all his glory
was not arrayed like one of these.
