Yarn Along – Yarn and Garden

yarnalong_gsheller_grayOn Wednesday’s knitters go to Ginny’s to share all the wonderful projects being worked on, finished, frogged, cried over, and learned from. They also tell what they are reading and a little of the storyline or provoking thoughts. I think it is great. So many books, knitting ideas and hints on how to make knitting more enjoyable.

May 1 scrap jar 004April’s Scrap jar,
not many yarn ends,
but a lot of crocheting and knitting was going on.
If you look close you can see
how the Farmer has been spending his time,
3 1/2 -75ft long rows of tomatoes
and assorted peppers, bells and hot.
Broccoli and cauliflower planed under the grape vines.
Raspberries, blackberries and boysenberries growing like mad
behind the grapes

April 27 brittany 003Brittany’s granny square is finished
and wrapped around ‘sweet one’.

Over half of the 500+ stitches is bound off –
soon Miss Shirley’s shawl will go home.
I’m not sure when blocking pictures will post,
I’ll be out of town next Wednesday.

Shhhhhh, I know it is a quilt. . .
April 28 quilt 001 One step closer to being completed.
One side of the binding machine sewn on,
I’ll turn and hand sew the other side Thursday.

April 28 quilt 002That is if I can get Grissabel
to give up her napping bed for a couple hours.

I finished listen to Cold Truth by Mariah Stewart,
an easy to listen to mystery.
Today I’ll start Mr. Penumbra’s 24 hour Bookstoree

Yarn Along – This and That

Just two sides of this Granny Square and short enough pink to finish those rounds. Buying one more skein today. Finish the pink, 2 rounds of green and one row of green shells and it is done.

Whippoorwill needs just half a row left to bead and then bind off with a crocheted loop, crochet 2 together, chain 5. . .

With two projects almost done, I couldn’t resist. Another Mystery KAL, Laura Nelkin’s Juego. I have tried to do two of her mysteries. I started Kinetic, but was way beyond my abilities, then when I saw the pictures of finished shawls, I knew it wasn’t my style, so wasn’t very disappointed. The second KAL I was knitting well, but slowly – seeing the pictures knew again it wasn’t my style so didn’t finish it. I’m hoping I like this one.

Chatting on the Deck

chatsonthefarmhouseporch
“Chats on the Farmhouse Porch” is a group of friends
gathering to visit,
sip their favorite beverages,
nibble delicious treats
and share their likes and dislikes.

Patrice and Wendell have invited me to join the chatting.
Patrice provides the questions,
we answer.

What did you do for Easter?

My day was blest, but low key.
Easter morning worship service,
Lunch with youngest daughter at Garcia’s,
a little time on the computer, some knitting, a nap
and attended the evening Easter program presented by the Young Married class.
The young children sang so cute, much singing and a pantomime skit.
skit531868_577440852274594_63678473_nWe saw the veil rent in twain as Christ died to save us from our sins.
My heart is full of thanks.

How bad were you with candy or treats? (On a scale of 1-10. 1 being good, 10 being sugared up)

I was a 1 – shock —   no candy on Easter, but I did pick up a bag of marked down almond M&M’s on Monday. It’s almost empty.

What’s one of the first things you’d like to do when you have consistent spring temperatures?

I love to sit on my deck wrapped in a shawl for my devotions and then knit a while.

How are you at gift buying?

My favorite gift is one I have made, either a quilt or a knitted/crocheted item
Mar 12 granny square 003This is the beginnings of new little girl’s afghan, don’t you love granny squares, I do.

Do you have an projects in mind for the month of April?

I’m hoping to finish the baby afghan, Shirley’s Shawl and Deanna’s quilt this month.
I hope I don’t cast on any thing new,
no, I don’t hope that at all,

but I do hope to stay focused on these three projects.

I’m having a big problem with Miss Shirley’s shawl.
Last week I told you I had to frog a long row,
this week I reknit the long row and the count is still off…:(
Doesn’t it look innocent?

Mar 27 blanket & pillow cases 001Miss Brittany’s granny square is coming along – it’s my take-a-long knitting.

Mar 27 blanket & pillow cases 003My dear friend’s daughter is getting married in April.
I’ll just use the ivory thread for the embroidery,
to give a white on white look to go with her ivory bedding.

I finished two projects, one gifted and loved;
the other at my daughter’s, Mary is the blocker extraordinaire.

Of course, as a reward for finishing, I could start something new.

400 yards of Posh Yarn, Hannah, Another Year Gone reminds me of the ocean.
Mar 12 middlebeach 002

Middle Beach with white pearly beads,
the beads are the foam on the tips of the waves.
Mar 12 middlebeach 003I started with size 4 needles, but I’ll be frogging and restart on 6’s.

Why, I don’t know,
but I’ve been checking out Granny Squares on Ravelry.
Then I learned March is Crochet Month.

A baby afghan of one large granny square was inevitable.
At Babetta’s Yarn and Gifts, my favorite yarn store,
I searched until I found these:
Rialto in pink, green and white.

Mar 12 granny square 002

On a size F hook, two rows of color at a time
will become a baby girl’s blankie.
