November 5, Today’s thought – Psalm 77

oct  28 015Beautiful Fall Cornstalks

Good Morning

Psalm 77
1 I will cry to God with my voice, even to God with my voice, and He will give ear and hearken to me.

2 In the day of my trouble I seek (inquire of and desperately require) the Lord; in the night my hand is stretched out [in prayer] without slacking up; I refuse to be comforted.

3 I [earnestly] remember God; I am disquieted and I groan; I muse in prayer, and my spirit faints [overwhelmed]. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

4 You hold my eyes from closing; I am so troubled that I cannot speak.

5 I consider the days of old, the years of bygone times [of prosperity].

6 I call to remembrance my song in the night; with my heart I meditate and my spirit searches diligently:

7 Will the Lord cast off forever? And will He be favorable no more?

8 Have His mercy and loving-kindness ceased forever? Have His promises ended for all time?

9 Has God [deliberately] abandoned or forgotten His graciousness? Has He in anger shut up His compassion? Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

10 And I say, This [apparent desertion of Israel by God] is my appointed lot and trial, but I will recall the years of the right hand of the Most High [in loving-kindness extended toward us], for this is my grief, that the right hand of the Most High changes.

11 I will [earnestly] recall the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will [earnestly] remember the wonders [You performed for our fathers] of old.

12 I will meditate also upon all Your works and consider all Your [mighty] deeds.

13 Your way, O God, is in the sanctuary [in holiness, away from sin and guilt]. Who is a great God like our God?

14 You are the God Who does wonders; You have demonstrated Your power among the peoples.

15 You have with Your [mighty] arm redeemed Your people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!

16 When the waters [at the Red Sea and the Jordan] saw You, O God, they were afraid; the deep shuddered also, for [all] the waters saw You.

17 The clouds poured down water, the skies sent out a sound [of rumbling thunder]; Your arrows went forth [in forked lightning].

18 The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind, the lightnings illumined the world; the earth trembled and shook.

19 Your way [in delivering Your people] was through the sea, and Your paths through the great waters, yet Your footsteps were not traceable, but were obliterated.

20 You led Your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. The Amplified Bible

I have so felt just like David many times during the past few months.

Striving to remember . . . Today
With my prayers, desiring yours, Leslie

November 4, Today’s thought – Remember

oct 28 010 I love the sunflowers in fall, also.

Good Morning

Psalm 77:10-13
And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High. I will remember the works of the Lord: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings. Thy way, O God, is in the sanctuary: who is so great a God as our God?

The concept of remembering is an important biblical theme.
The command not to forget is fiven more than four hundred times. We are to remember.

The wonders of God’s creation and works of His hands:

For ask now of the days that are past, which were before thee, since the day that God created man upon the earth, and ask from the one side of heaven unto the other, whether there hath been any such thing as this great thing is, or hath been heard like it? Deuteronomy 4:32

That the world belongs to God:

For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. Psalm 50:10-11

The deliverance of His people from captivity:

And remember that thou wast a servant in the land of Egypt, and that the Lord thy God brought thee out thence through a mighty hand and by a stretched out arm: therefore the Lord thy God commanded thee to keep the sabbath day.Deuteronomy 5:15

The sacrificial gift of Jesus Christ on the cross:

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me. 1 Corinthians 11:25

Remembering keeps us from the sin of ingratitude.
It also helps us face the future with confidence.
from A Daybook of Grace

Today. . . have you remembered to remember?

November 2, Today’s thought – Living at the Judgement Bar

Good Morning

Every Labor Day weekend, our church hosts a Fellowship Meeting.
Dear ones, family and friends, come from all over the United States to worship with us.
I am borrowing (and editing a little) what my Daughter posted on Facebook about the meeting.
This is the last service of the meeting.

September 1, 2013, Sunday PM

The pastor from Idaho spoke on ‘Living at the Judgement Bar’

The last night of the Fellowship meeting had us searching our souls. As saints we are to live at the Judgement Bar. To take up residence at the place where God will examine the thoughts, motives, and actions of our lives and live every day as if it was our last. If we are completely honest with ourselves and God, we know how we will appear at judgement day. There will be no surprises. How are you living?

I Peter 4:17-19 states that judgement must begin at the house of God and through it are the righteous saved. Only those that hear and obey the judgements of God will make it to heaven. Judgement is the process of forming an opinion or evaluation by discerning and comparing [the way we have lived our lives].

For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear? Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God commit the keeping of their souls to him in well doing, as unto a faithful Creator. 1Peter 4:17-19

The truth of God’s word shines as a light in the darkness of the world. Are you walking in that light of truth? Are you heeding to the light/truth that God has exposed to you? In your personal life when no one else is around, when you are at work or school among others, when you are at the House of God? Are you walking in the light that God has shown you? Is the light of truth shining through you?

The Brother ended the message with a demonstration. Carrying a lantern he walked throughout the darkened sanctuary asking searching questions that we have all heard before. It was definitely a time of personal reflection and examination. How are we living? Do we take into consideration that today could be our last day? Have we taken up residence at the judgement bar?

Considering . . . Today

November 1, Today’s thought – Awake to Righteousness

Good Morning

Every Labor Day weekend, our church hosts a Fellowship Meeting.
Dear ones, family and friends, come from all over the United States to worship with us.
I am borrowing (and editing a little) what my Daughter posted
on Facebook about the meeting.

September 1, 2013 Sunday Am

the Pastor from Arizona spoke on Awake to Righteousness

AWAKE to righteousness and sin not…1 Corinthians 15:34

Sunday morning of the 2013 Fellowship meeting brought a message of awakening. The Church of God cannot afford to drift and fall asleep and the sinner cannot afford to remain in it’s stupor. God is coming back for a lively church, one that takes full responsibility for their salvation.

There are 2 spiritual conditions, the first and preferred is to be in love with God, panting after him, putting him first, keeping your experience up to date, crucifying the flesh, his beloved, awakened. The second, a friend of Satan, panting after the dust and flesh of this world, giving into all filthy and wicked desire, an enemy of God, asleep. There is no middle ground or position to be in. There is no kinda good most of the time, there is one or the other.

Saints of God, we need to remain awake and fresh, no yawning and growing comfortable in our place. We can’t allow ourselves to sit back and let the others continue to work of the gospel, to take a break or short cut. We need to be new every morning, we need to strive lawfully, we need to be current and up to date in our salvation, we need to be awake. If we fail to do so, we will find ourselves falling asleep in the dust and unknown of God.

The parable of the 10 virgins, Matthew 25:1-12, is not just a nice story, it is the way it will be. Just as the account tells us, only those with extra oil to trim their lamps or those that have prepared themselves and kept their souls awakened will be welcomed into heaven. And those that have failed to prepare or have slacked off on their experience will be refused entrance as if they had never known God.

Saints, AWAKE, Awake to righteousness, keep it real and fresh and new each day. Sinners, AWAKE, fall in love with Jesus. Sin not. It is possible to live a holy life with the power of Jesus blood. The Bible says that God is coming back for a pure and holy Church. Will you be apart of that celebration?

October 31, Today’s thought – The New Man

Good Morning

Every Labor Day weekend, our church hosts a Fellowship Meeting.
Dear ones, family and friends, come from all over the United States to worship with us.
I am borrowing (and editing a little) what my Daughter posted
on Facebook about the meeting.

August 31, 2013 Saturday Evening

The pastor from Southern California spoke – The New man is Still Required

We were then privileged to hear from the sister bring out the thought about the “New Man” and how he is STILL required.

2 Corinthians 5:17 reads, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature:old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

When we give our life to God makes us a new man.
All the old ways of being, talking, thinking are gone
and a new man is now in it’s place.
But it isn’t enough to be new 1 time.
This scripture says, “IS a new man”, not was made a new man.
We have to be new EVERY day.
Our experience needs to be current and up to date, TODAY.
We can’t always testify
of how God made us a new 3, 10, 25 years ago,
but how he is keeping us new everyday.
Every day we have to make sure the old man is still in his place,
that he isn’t given room to work in our life.

God requires his Church to prove that the new man is still possible.
While it takes the power of God to remain new, he has promised to keep us.

Renewing . . . Today

October 30, Today’s thought – For Zion’s Sake

Good Morning

Every Labor Day weekend, our church hosts a Fellowship Meeting.
Dear ones, family and friends, come from all over the United States to worship with us.
I am borrowing (and editing a little) what my Daughter posted
on Facebook about the meeting.

Saturday am
Pastor from Chicago spoke – For Zion’s Sake

For Zion’s sake…we can be quiet no longer
The Spirit of the Lord moved in the service Saturday morning through testimonies and the message. The theme they spoke about was the need to be quiet no longer. For Zion’s sake we as Saints of God can no longer be timid or quiet about Holiness. (Isaiah 62:1) We need to expose the enemy and his tricks for the Saints and the world to see.

A Sister from Montana testified about how we need to testify of deliverance. It is easy to speak of God’s forgiveness and mercy. Religion testifies to that. But we need to testify of deliverance, that is what sets the Church of God apart from religion. Yes we are thankful for mercy and forgiveness, but it is the deliverance from sin that makes us who we are.

For Zion’s sake I will be quiet no longer.

The Brother from Chicago spoke of things that we need to expose,
for Zion’s sake, of how we should be living, for Zion’s sake…
It is for Zion’s sake,
for the Church of God that we need to stand up
with the power of God and the witness of the Holy Spirit and be quiet no longer.

And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death. Revelation 12:11

October 29, Today’s thought – Living Epistles

Good Afternoon

Every Labor Day weekend, our church hosts a Fellowship Meeting.
Dear ones, family and friends, come from all over the United States to worship with us.
I am borrowing (and editing a little) what my Daughter posted
on Facebook about the meeting.

August 30, 2013 Friday pm
Pastor from Tennessee spoke on ‘We Are Living Epistles’

The second night of the fellowship presented a searching challenge:
If the Bible were to continue
and the saints turned to the book of “your name”,
would it be for the edification of the saints?
Would they be encouraged by your faith,
your determination to press on,
your faithfulness in Salvation?
Or would they be saddened by a story like the rich young ruler?
One that was given the gospel but turned away?
Would the saints want to read your chapter again and again
to gather strength and encouragement
to keep fighting their own battle.
We need to be living epistles for the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 3:1-5
And I, brethren, could not speak unto you as unto spiritual, but as unto carnal, even as unto babes in Christ. I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? Who then is Paul, and who is Apollos, but ministers by whom ye believed, even as the Lord gave to every man?

We are writing our chapter of the Bible by the way
we live in our private and public lives.
How would your chapter read?

October 28, Today’s thought – Strive Lawfully

Good Morning,

Every Labor Day weekend, our church hosts a Fellowship Meeting.
Dear ones, family and friends, come from all over the United States to worship with us.
I am borrowing (and editing a little) what my Daughter posted
on Facebook about the meeting.

August 29, 2013 Thursday

First night of the Fellowship Meeting. We are off to a great start, with a purpose to worship, to get our souls fed, to be an encouragement to the saints, to see souls saved. All are welcome . . .

Pastor from New York brought the message: Strive Lawfully

In 1 Corinthians 9:24,

Know ye not that they which run in a race run all,
but one receiveth the prize?
So run, that ye may obtain.

Paul uses the example of running a race to describe this life of Salvation. He says that we run a race to receive a prize and in order to do so, we keep our body under subjection. In a literal race or competition in order to compete one must consider all of the conditions of the contest. One has a particular diet and training that they participate in. There is a proper attire, attitude and behavior that must be kept in order to be considered a candidate for the competition.

Salvation is the same. God has outlined the requirements for this race. There is a spiritual diet and training that we need to comply with. There is preparation that we need to be diligent to follow through with. There are conditions we need to meet during the race in order to qualify at the finish. As in a literal race, we can’t take a short cut to the finish line, we need to be in the race 100%. We need to strive (work for, be diligent, devote serious effort or energy, to struggle in opposition) lawfully (according to the conditions set by the governing authority) to make the goal.
We can strive, but if we take a short cut, thinking our way is better than God’s and don’t follow the conditions stipulated, we will not be able to receive the crown.

2 Timothy 2:5 – And if a man also strive for masteries, yet is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.

Are you striving for a mastery in Salvation lawfully?
Have you meet the conditions of the race?
Have you attempted to run but have stepped out of the race thinking you can take a short cut?
Renew your focus on the goal
and make what ever changes necessary to meet it.
Try again.
It is possible, through Christ, to strive lawfully in “this present time” to receive a crown in heaven.

Strive . . .Today
With my prayers, desiring yours, Leslie

October 26, Today’s thought – Delays and Sufferings

griz in basket 001 (1)Can’t think of a better place to wait!

Good Morning

Genesis 15:12-14
12 And when the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell upon Abram;
and, lo, an horror of great darkness fell upon him.
13 And he said unto Abram,
Know of a surety that thy seed shall be a stranger in a land that is not theirs,
and shall serve them; and they shall afflict them four hundred years;
14 And also that nation, whom they shall serve, will I judge:
and afterward shall they come out with great substance.

An assured part of God’s pledged blessing to us is delay and suffering. A delay in Abram’s own lifetime that seemed to put God’s pledge beyond fulfillment was followed by seemingly unendurable delay of Abram’s descendants. But it was only a delay; they “came out with great substance.” The pledge was redeemed.

God is going to test me with delays; and with the delays will come suffering, but through it all stands God’s pledge: His new covenant with me in Christ, and His inviolable promise of every lesser blessing that I need. The delay and the suffering are part of the promised blessing; let me praise Him for them today; and let me wait on The Lord and be of good courage and He will strengthen my heart.

Today’s thought –A Poem

Mar 8 002Even Grissabell is bored!

Good Morning

I stole this poem from another blog.
To many and sometimes to myself my life must seem boring.
I like it like that.

Being Boring – by Wendy Cope

If you ask me ‘What’s new?’, I have nothing to say
Except that the garden is growing.
I had a slight cold but it’s better today.
I’m content with the way things are going.
Yes, he is the same as he usually is,
Still eating and sleeping and snoring.
I get on with my work. He gets on with his.
I know this is all very boring.
There was drama enough in my turbulent past:
Tears and passion – I’ve used up a tankful.
No news is good news, and long may it last.
If nothing much happens, I’m thankful.
A happier cabbage you never did see,
My vegetable spirits are soaring.
If you’re after excitement, steer well clear of me.
I want to go on being boring.
I don’t go to parties. Well, what are they for,
If you don’t need to find a new lover?
You drink and you listen and drink a bit more
And you take the next day to recover.
Someone to stay home with was all my desire
And, now that I’ve found a safe mooring,
I’ve just one ambition in life: I aspire
To go on and on being boring.

October 23 – Today’s thought – Faith

P1020642Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia, October 23, 2009

Good Morning

Holding the mystery of faith . . .1 Timothy 3:9

Faith is the eye by which we look to Jesus A dim-sighted eye is still an eye, a weeping eye is still an eye.

Faith is the hand with which we lay hold on Jesus. A trembling hand is still a hand. And he is a believer whose heart within him trembles when he touches the hem of the Savior’s garment, that he may be healed.

Faith is the tongue by which we taste how good the Lord is. A feverish tongue is nevertheless a tongue. And even then we may believe when we are without the smallest portion of comfort; for our faith is founded not upon feelings but on the promises of God.

Faith is the foot by which we go to Jesus. A lame foot is still a foot. He who comes slowly nevertheless still comes.
~~~George Mueller
WHAT FAITH DOES
Verse 1
You ask me why I believe like I do
Why I’m so convinced that the Bible is true
I’m here to tell you, it’s only because
I’ve come through enough to see what faith does
Chorus
Faith sees the invisible, believes the impossible
Receives the incredible, no matter what was
Faith moves the unmovable, proves the unprovable
For anyone willing to trust
Believe and you’ll see what faith does
Verse 2
If there’s a mountain that stands in your way
From all you can see, it will be there to stay
God said with the faith of a small mustard seed
That mountain will move, believe and you’ll see
Chorus
Believe and you’ll see what faith does
You’ll see what faith does
October 21, Today’s thought -Consecration
10-19,20-09 072October 20, 2009, on a cruise leaving New York Harbor, pleasant memories.
Good Morning
Matthew 26:36-41, 44-54
36 Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
37 And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
38 Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
39 And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
40 And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
. . . . . . .
45 Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
46 Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
47 And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
48 Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.
49 And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.
50 And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus and took him.
51 And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear.
52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
54 But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
Peter is consecrated to Jesus.
We know that because he is ready to defend Jesus from the crowd.
But Peter is not consecrated to God’s plan.
We know that because is not ready for Jesus to follow God’s will.
Verse 41: Watch and Pray, that you enter not into temptation.
The temptation to think my way is better that God’s way,
especially when I don’t understand the ‘whys’.
Watch and Pray . . . Today
October 17, Today’s thought – I Have Called You Friends
oct  16  fall lightThis is how the sky looked from my front door last evening.
Good Morning
Jesus said to him, ’Have I been with you so long, and yet you have not known Me, Philip?’ —John 14:9
These words were not spoken as a rebuke, nor even with surprise; Jesus was encouraging Philip to draw closer. Yet the last person we get intimate with is Jesus. Before Pentecost the disciples knew Jesus as the One who gave them power to conquer demons and to bring about a revival (see Luke 10:18-20). It was a wonderful intimacy, but there was a much closer intimacy to come: “. . . I have called you friends . . .” (John 15:15). True friendship is rare on earth. It means identifying with someone in thought, heart, and spirit. The whole experience of life is designed to enable us to enter into this closest relationship with Jesus Christ. We receive His blessings and know His Word, but do we really know Him?
Jesus said, “It is to your advantage that I go away . . .” (John 16:7). He left that relationship to lead them even closer. It is a joy to Jesus when a disciple takes time to walk more intimately with Him. The bearing of fruit is always shown in Scripture to be the visible result of an intimate relationship with Jesus Christ (see John 15:1-4).
Once we get intimate with Jesus we are never lonely and we never lack for understanding or compassion. We can continually pour out our hearts to Him without being perceived as overly emotional or pitiful. The Christian who is truly intimate with Jesus will never draw attention to himself but will only show the evidence of a life where Jesus is completely in control. This is the outcome of allowing Jesus to satisfy every area of life to its depth. The picture resulting from such a life is that of the strong, calm balance that our Lord gives to those who are intimate with Him.
October 16, Today’s thought – The Secret
oct  11 018Mexican Sage from Grandma Crain.
Good Morning
“Casting all your care upon him; for he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7).
Anxiety can tear you apart, because it pulls you in many different directions at the same time. Once anxiety seizes your mind, you’re not good for anything else until you break free from its grip. Here’s how you do it.
Cast your cares upon the Lord.
The word cares means anxiety. The word cast mean ‘to hurl.” In other words, the moment anxiety starts putting it squeeze on your mind, grab a hold of it and HURL it onto the Lord. Don’t pitch it; don’t toss it; don’t lob it — HURL IT. Remove it as far as possible away from you.
In other words, you have to let go of it. By holding onto anxiety you form a partnership that trumps your friendship with God. And you empower anxiety to be even stronger than it actually is. Let it go — hurl it upon the Lord.
And here’s the secret of why you can do this — HE CARES FOR YOU!
How odd that we would think our care for ourselves exceeds the care which the Lord has for us. And how absurd when we conclude that our ability to take care of things is greater than God’s power to do so. Yet that is exactly what anxiety cause us to do, over and over again.
So cast your anxieties upon the Lord BY CHANGING YOUR FOCUS from caring about yourself to realizing HE CARES FOR YOU. And He can do a much better job of it than you can.
Say it out loud to yourself and watch the cords begin to break away from your mind — “He cares for me!” Say it over and over, in any anxious moment, and God will bless you with a care free mind and a liberated life.  Rylie
October 15, Today’s thought – Chronos vs Kairos
my stuff 001My clock
Good Morning,
To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
Ecclesiastes 3:1
from Simple Abundance, A Daybook of Comfort and Joy,
by Sarah Ban Breathnach
“Once upon a time.
Up until this time.
For the time being.
Time and time again.
Time’s up!
time’s mystery is difficult for most women to appreciate because we’ve so little of it. Although we’ve all been allotted twenty-four hours each day, it doesn’t seem to go very far. So if we experience anything a all, it’s dread, because we keep running out of time. Again and again. And it doesn’t matter what kind of time it is —Greenwich, daylight saving, standard, eastern, mountain, central or pacific. All that matters is we never seem to have enough of it.Which is why all women I know constantly feel time worn.
. . .
In order to know a semblance of serenity during the days of our lives, we also need to discover Time’s twin mature, which the ancient Greeks called chronos and kairos.
Chronos is clocks, deadlines, watches, calendars, agendas, planners, schedules, beepers. Chronos is time at here worst. Chronos keeps track. Chronos is a delusion of grandeur. Chronos is running the Marine Corps marathon in heels. In chronos we think only of ourselves. Chronos is the world’s time.
Kairos is transcendence, infinity, reverence, joy, passion, loev, the Sacred. Kairos is intimacy with the Real. Kairos is time at her best. Kairos lets go. In kairos we escape the dungeon of self. Kairos is a Schubert waltz in nineteenth-century Vienna with your soul mate. Kairos is Spirit’s time.
We exist in chronos. We long for kairos. That’s our duality. Chronos requires speed so that it won’t be wasted. Kairos requires space so that it might be savored. We do in chronos. In kairos we’re allowed to be.
So how do we exchange chronos for kairos?
By slowing down.
By concentrating on one thing at a time.
By going about whatever we are doing as if it were the only thing worth doing at that moment.
By pretending we have all the time in the world, so that our subconscious will kick in and make it so.
By making time.
By taking time.
