Yarn Along – Easily Distracted

yarnalong_gsheller_gray

On Wednesday’s knitters go to Ginny’s to share all the wonderful projects being worked on, finished, frogged, cried over, and learned from. They also tell what they are reading and a little of the storyline or provoking thoughts. I think it is great. So many books, knitting ideas and hints on how to make knitting more enjoyable.

sept 6. trisha pinwheel 001 Knitting away on this ruffle –
I have 3 sections to ruffle.

March 5 002 One quarter of my quilt was sewn together this week.

March 5 004 What can I say. . .
when an unfaithful knitter/crocheter/quilter
finds a new pattern . . .
She just has to try it!

I haven’t used Homespun for a while because it doesn’t showcase the stitches I’ve worked so hard to make. but I have these 8 skeins purchased for another circle afghan that were pouting in the stash shed because they were being ignored and I had to try a new to me pattern. (Actually I tried the pattern in dishcloth cotton{it was close} and THE pattern begged to be crocheted up right now!) So this new project is really not my fault, is it?

Pattern – Corner to Corner Throw, Red Heart pattern, LW1595 by Catherine Watson.
The pattern starts with one shell in the corner grows diagonally to half size;
then decreases back to one shell, then add a shell/scalloped edge.

Wow!
My last post with “Yarn Along” was July last year –
zip. . . .there went another day.

Then I posted picture of a quilt in process.
I finished that quilt for Jayden
and one for her brother, Jacoby
Jan 23 jayden

Jan 23 jacoby 2

I also made quilts for the Farmer’s brother and his wife.
nov 25 darrel 009

nov 25 darrel 008

And one more commissioned quilt as a Christmas gift:

nov 25 darrel 013All were long-arm quilted by my daughter at
Quilt’m by Sunshine Designs.

So, again, not a lot of knitting going on.
I knit a few ‘Grandmother’s Favorite’ dishcloths,
’cause I can do those with out thinking.

I also knit a red shawlette, but it is not blocked
and there are no pictures.

BUT, I have been adding a ruffle to this circle afghan.sept 6. trisha pinwheel 001Oh, dear, this picture dated 9/2013!

Jan 28 ruffle Oh, well, I’ll just knitting away on these 12 stitches
with a 8 row repeat.

For various reasons, my knitting has been patiently waiting and rolling their eyes. I was ignoring everything that needed a hook or needles, except this very simple diagonal scarf. I only had to think twice on the right side row and not at all on the wrong side.  I just didn’t think I could handle more.

june25 yan along 001

june25 yan along 002Very quiet colors for my very tired mind.

For some reason this old  project called out very loud. I heard and dug out the pieces of this English paper-piecing project. I can’t remember when I started it, but I do remember working on it in 2007. My version of a Grandmother’s Flower Garden using reproduction 30’s fabrics.

june25 yan along 005Paper hexagons, fabric square pinned on, then trimmed to 1/4 inch from paper. The fabric edges are folded over the paper and basted to the paper.

june25 yan along 004
I first made ‘flowers.’
june25 yan along 003
Then I added ‘leaves’ around the flowers. The sunny yellow will connect all the flower units

I have a along way to go until this is big enough for my bed.

I hope the knitters and crocheters don’t mind a little quilting visiting ‘Yarn Along’ today.

Very little knitting has been done; I was embroidering pillowcases for our three married children.  No pictures, they turned out pretty (I thought) and I added beads for a little bling.

jan8 001This is my year’s worth of ‘ends’ mostly yarn
with some embroidery thread as a topper.

I’m reading, not listening to, a book of Sherlock Holmes mysteries. I’m enjoying it more than I thought. I don’t really try to figure out the problems – I like being surprised.

I decided to make _____________________ (because family reads this sometimes) for Christmas. As usual I have waited until the last minute because that is when everything gets done.

No yarn is being held, petted, drooled over, dreamed about, bought, sold, until __________________gets done!

I hear ‘Traitor’ whispered as I pass baskets, open cupboards, visit the stash shed!

Oh, I do hope Christmas comes soon.

I enjoyed listening to Full Disclosure by Dee Henderson as I ____________.

Joining with Ginny and Tami, hopefully others still hold yarn longingly in their hands.

My wish wasn’t as I wished!
nove 6 redo 001It wasn’t as full as I like.
My favorite yarn shop, Babetta’s Yarn and Gifts’
(be sure to visit if you are ever in the Sacramento area) guru
suggested adding a wedge panel to each front edge.
he adding has begun.

Gingko Crescent was a disappointment also,
not the pattern but my tight knitting;
which I find strange because I usually knit very loose.
nove 6 redo 002
So frogged, and began again with larger needles,
being conscious of my tension and adding beads.

Susie’s Coffee I LOVE IT!

nove 6 suzi - hugs 005I love it!
I don’t know the name of the pattern

nove 6 suzi - hugs 006It’s full and flowing and wraps around like a hug,
That’s the best kind of shawl, I think.

I been re-listening to Dee Henderson’s the O’Mallay series while knitting.

Today I’m joining Tami’ WIP (works in progress) as Ginny at Yarn along gave birth to a baby boy this week.

I don’t have much exciting knitting this week,
but I wanted to link up with Ginny and her friends.

I have a large lace shawl and 2 afghans on the needles,
but I seem to need to see something done.
So I have been knitting Grandmother’s Favorite dishcloths.
sept 27 003
These are this Grannie’s favorite, too.
I knit with a size 4.
I love using the signature points to make
that K2tog with the unyielding cotton.
Thanks to the Farmer’s gift a few Christmases ago.

The white one has a swan knitted in, for my Mom,
she and dad used to have swans living on their section of Nelder Heights creek

I saw this yarn in Joann’s and knew it had to me another blanket
for a friend due late fall.
sept 27 002
What pattern to use??????
sept 27 001Grandmother’s favorite, of course.

Hmmmmmmmmm……..uh oh look at all those ends to weave in!
I better start soon.

The Farmer and I ran away to the ocean on Wednesday, spent the night and back home Thursday evening. OH HOW, the pause of ocean watching, seeing the deep blues, walking in the wind, restores my soul. No pictures, camera dead; but if I shut my eyes I can still see the waves break against the rocks.

I’m still working on the afghan trio.aug 9,13 005
Here is a much nicer picture of afghan 1.

This is afghan 2 all finished and ready to give.

Trisha’s baby blanket is finished.
I love the ruffle,

I’m knitting  three afghans.
I’m not sure who will get which one,
I may let the older girls pick their favorite.

July 31 007
July 31 006Number 2 – Pinwheel afghan for one of Trisha’s girls.
This is a fun knit.
July 31 010 Number 3 – a favorite afghan, Cuddle wheel,
worked in short rows making 12 pinwheel sections.
I have knit many of these.

July 31 005Summer Flies for Suzanne is knit with Debbie Bliss Eco Cotton,
I like this pattern and the changes in stitches.
I think I would like to knit again in a wool blend of some kind.

July 31 008
July 31 009 And finally a humble dishcloth,
I love garter stitch,
it is so regular and even and simple.

I’m listening to the first book, Hidden Empire, of the Saga of the Seven Suns by Kevin Anderson. I have the first thee books downloaded. I found out there are nine books in the series, I’m not sure I want to listen to all of them.

but the parents liked it a lot.

This week, after finishing Sand and Surf, Wendy’s Summer Mystery Shawl grew on my needles. Now I am on the third chart, my cake of yarn has a big hole in the middle, causing me to wonder, will I have enough yarn to complete this shawl? I bought a yarn yardage measuring gadget-I forget exactly what it is called- to see if measuring will give me a clue. I’ll have to message Wendy.

I finished reading The Apothecary’s Daughter, it was a good light summer book. Now I’m reading The Silent Governess, by the same author Julie Klassen. In the car I’m listening to Under Orders by Sick Francis. I like Dick Francis’ books a lot, there is always a little twist in them.

Yarn Along – Taking Turns

yarnalong_gsheller_gray

They also tell what they are reading and a little of the storyline or provoking thoughts. I think it is great. So many books, knitting ideas and hints on how to make knitting more enjoyable

This past month I organized my WIPs, those presently I’m most interested in knitting, in a topless box right by my chair. I began to knit rotating from one project to another, making some progress, ripping some because stitch count was off and I couldn’t figure out where, enjoying the variety and actually finishing one (it’s a Christmas gift, don’t tell my girls they would be shocked).

The finished – Emily’s cowl – it’s not blocked so the edges are curling. I really like the way the Zauberball, blue/black shading and the Cascade Heritage silk, lime green, contrasted, yet worked together.

july 3 yarn along 002

I’ve spent the most knitting time on Moss Garden Shawl. I’ve started the second skein of yarn and am on the 6th repeat of eight. Looking closely today before taking a picture I found this second skein is generally lighter than the first. sigh. My quandary do I rip back and re-knit using two skeins to blend in the lighter one or just leave it? I already know the answer, I can’t leave it this way. I wanted a coffee look for a coffee loving friend and the colors will be perfect if blended.

july 3 yarn along 006

I think a round knitted afghan is one of the best baby gifts. I started this one in April and ‘little boy’ was a year old on June 28. My needles put up a hue and cry – that boy needs his afghan! What my needles don’t understand is that it has 104-109 for the past 5 days. I got busy on the afghan anyway and now have 7 of the 12 sections done. I take about one and a half to two hours per section, so it will be done this week, I hope.

july 3 yarn along 010Squint. . . Can’t you see the waves?

WendyKnits Summer Mystery Shawl 2013 is delightful to knit. Since I’m sharing my knitting time with others, this shawl is not as far along as I would like. Peeking at the ‘spoiler’ pictures, I’m going to love my finished shawl.

july 3 yarn along 004

Apothecary’s Daughter by Julie Klassen is the ‘paper’ book I’m reading. I saw this book on some one’s blog (sorry don’t remember whose), now it’s my turn to read it. I’m listening to Die Trying, a Jack Reacher story by Lee Child. Jack Reacher is all the storybook heros rolled into one.

Many knitters/readers can be found here.
