Sunday Bible Reading – John 14:1, 15-18

John 14:1, 15-18

“Do not let your heart be troubled (afraid, cowardly).
Believe [confidently] in God and trust in Him,
[have faith, hold on to it, rely on it, keep going and]
believe also in Me.

“If you [really] love Me, you will keep and obey My commandments.

And I will ask the Father,
and He will give you another Helper
(Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counselor, Strengthener, Standby),
to be with you forever—
the Spirit of Truth, whom the world cannot receive
[and take to its heart]
because it does not see Him or know Him,
but you know Him because He (the Holy Spirit)
remains with you continually and will be in you.

“I will not leave you as orphans [comfortless, bereaved, and helpless];
I will come [back] to you.

Sunday Bible Reading

Romans 6:20-23
For when ye were the servants of sin,
ye were free from righteousness.
What fruit had ye then in those things
whereof ye are now ashamed?
for the end of those things is death.
But now being made free from sin,
and become servants to God,
ye have your fruit unto holiness,
and the end everlasting life.
For the wages of sin is death;
but the gift of God is eternal life
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

‘A man may Merit hell, but he cannot Merit heaven.
The apostle does not say that
the wages of righteousness is eternal life:
no, but that this eternal life,
even to the righteous,
is The gracious Gift of God.
And even this gracious gift
comes through Jesus Christ our Lord.
He alone has procured it;
and it is given to all those
who find redemption in his blood.
A sinner goes to hell because he deserves it;
a righteous man goes to heaven
because Christ has died for him,
and communicated that grace
by which his sin is pardoned
and his soul made holy.’ Clarke’s Commentary

My Salvation, My Rock, My Defense

A Psalm of David.
Truly my soul waiteth upon God:
from him cometh my salvation.
He only is my rock and my salvation;
he is my defense;
I shall not be greatly moved.
My soul, wait thou only upon God;
for my expectation is from him.
He only is my rock and my salvation:
he is my defense;
I shall not be moved.
In God is my salvation and my glory:
the rock of my strength,
and my refuge, is in God.
Trust in him at all times; ye people,
pour out your heart before him:
God is a refuge for us. Selah.

Sunday Bible Reading – For Our Good Always

Deuteronomy 6:4-7
Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart,
and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
And these words, which I command thee this day,
shall be in thine heart:
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children,
and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house,
and when thou walkest by the way,
and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

Deuteronomy 6:20-25
And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying,
What mean the testimonies,
and the statutes,
and the judgments,
which the LORD our God hath commanded you?
Then thou shalt say unto thy son,
We were Pharaoh’s bondmen in Egypt ;
and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand:
And the LORD shewed signs and wonders, great and sore,
upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household,
before our eyes:
And he brought us out from thence,
that he might bring us in,
to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.
And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes,
to fear the LORD our God,

for our good always,

that he might preserve us alive,
as it is at this day.
And it shall be our righteousness,
if we observe to do all these commandments
before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded us.

Colossians 4:2-6

Continue in prayer,
and watch in the same with thanksgiving;
Withal praying also for us,
that God would open unto us a door of utterance,
to speak the mystery of Christ,
for which I am also in bonds:
That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.
Walk in wisdom toward them that are without,
redeeming the time.
Let your speech be alway with grace,
seasoned with salt,
that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

Colossians 4:2,5-6

2 Be earnest
and unwearied
and steadfast in your prayer [life],
being [both] alert and intent
in [your praying] with thanksgiving.

5 Behave yourselves wisely
[living prudently and with discretion]
in your relations with those of the outside world
(the non-Christians),
making the very most of the time
and seizing (buying up) the opportunity.

6 Let your speech at all times be gracious
(pleasant and winsome),
seasoned [as it were] with salt,
[so that you may never be at a loss]
to know how you ought to answer anyone
[who puts a question to you].

Lilacs and Ground Orchids

Act 17:24-28a

God who made the world and everything in it,
since He is Lord of heaven and earth,
does not dwell in temples made with hands.
Nor is He worshiped with men’ hands,
as though he needed any thing,
And He gives to all life, breath, and all things.
And He has made from one blood every nation of men
to dwell on all the face of the earth,
and has determined their preappointed times
and the boundaries of their dwellings,
so that they should seek the Lord
in the hope that they might grope for Him and find Him,
though He is not far from each one of us:
for in Him we live and move and have our being,,,

March Poppies

Habakkuk 3:17-19

Although the fig tree shall not blossom,
neither shall fruit be in the vines;
the labour of the olive shall fail,
and the fields shall yield no meat;
the flock shall be cut off from the fold,
and there shall be no herd in the stalls:
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
The LORD God is my strength,
and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet,
and he will make me to walk upon mine high places.

Because he hath set his love upon me,
therefore will I deliver him:
I will set him on high,
because he hath known my name.
He shall call upon me,
and I will answer him:
I will be with him in trouble;
I will deliver him, and honour him.
With long life will I satisfy him,
and shew him my salvation.

Psalm 119:41-50
Let Your mercy and loving-kindness come also to me,
O Lord, even Your salvation according to Your promise;

Then shall I have an answer
for those who taunt and reproach me,
for I lean on, rely on, and trust in Your word.

And take not the word of truth
utterly out of my mouth,
for I hope in Your ordinances.

I will keep Your law continually, forever and ever
[hearing, receiving, loving, and obeying it].

And I will walk at liberty and at ease,
for I have sought and inquired for
[and desperately required] Your precepts.

I will speak of Your testimonies
also before kings and will not be put to shame.

For I will delight myself in Your commandments,
which I love.

My hands also will I lift up
[in fervent supplication] to Your commandments,
which I love, and I will meditate on Your statutes.

Remember [fervently] the word and promise to Your servant,
in which You have caused me to hope.

This is my comfort and consolation in my affliction:
that Your word has revived me and given me life.

Sunday Bible Reading – Psalm 56

july 4 004Happy Coneflowers,  started with 2 plants and multiplying!

Psalm 56
To the chief Musician upon Jonathelemrechokim, Michtam of David, when the Philistines took him in Gath.

Be merciful unto me, O God:
for man would swallow me up;
he fighting daily oppresseth me.
Mine enemies would daily swallow me up:
for they be many that fight against me, O thou most High.

(from Clarke’s Commentary:Most of the Versions begin the next verse with this word: “From the light of the day, though I fear, yet will I trust in thee.” From the time that persecution waxes hot against me, though I often am seized with fear, yet I am enabled to maintain my trust in thee. Dr. Kennicott thinks there is a corruption here, and proposes to read: “I look upwards all the day long.”)

What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.
In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust;
I will not fear what flesh can do unto me.
Every day they wrest my words:
all their thoughts are against me for evil.
They gather themselves together, they hide themselves,
they mark my steps, when they wait for my soul.
Shall they escape by iniquity?
in thine anger cast down the people, O God.
Thou tellest my wanderings:
put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
When I cry unto thee,
then shall mine enemies turn back:
this I know; for God is for me.
In God will I praise his word:
in the LORD will I praise his word.
In God have I put my trust:
I will not be afraid what man can do unto me.
Thy vows are upon me, O God:
I will render praises unto thee.

(from Clarke’s commentary: Thy vows are upon me – I have promised in the most solemn manner to be thy servant; to give my whole life to thee; and to offer for my preservation sacrifices of praise and thanksgiving.
Reader, what hast thou vowed to God? To renounce the devil and all his works, the pomps and vanities of this wicked world, and all the sinful desires of the flesh; to keep God’s holy word and commandment, and to walk before him all the days of thy life. These things hast thou vowed; and these vows are upon thee. Wilt thou pay them?)

For thou hast delivered my soul from death:
wilt not thou deliver my feet from falling,
that I may walk before God in the light of the living?

(and again from Clarke’s: My feet from falling – Thou hast preserved me from taking any false way, and keepest me steady in my godly course; and so supportest me that I may continue to walk before thee in the light of the living, ever avoiding that which is evil, and moving towards that which is good; letting my light shine before men, that they may see my good works, and glorify my Father which is in heaven. To walk before God is to please him; the light of the living signifies the whole course of human life, with all its comforts and advantages.)
