February 23, Today’s thought – Have You Noticed?

Feb 23 005Planting another row of grapes from the Farmer’s cuttings

Good Morning

And become useful and helpful and kind to one another,
tenderhearted (compassionate, understanding, loving-hearted),
forgiving one another [readily and freely],
as God in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32 Amplified Bible

HAVE YOU EVER NOTICED—

When the other fellow acts that way, he is ugly;

when yo do , it is nerves.

When the other fellow is set in his ways, he is obstinate;

when you are, it is firmness.

When the other fellow does not like your friend, his is prejudiced;

when you do not like his;
you simply are showing that you are a good judge of human nature.

When the other fellow takes time to do things, he is dead slow;

when you do , you are deliberate.

When the other fellow spends alot, he is spendthrift;

when you do, you are generous.

When the other fellow picks flaws in things, he is cranky;

when you do , you are discriminating.

When the other fellow is mild in his manners, he is weak;

when you are, you are gracious.

when the other fellow gets destructive, he is tough;

when you do, you are forceful.

~~from The King’s Highway

And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye,
but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Matthew  7:3

February 22, Today’s thought – Prayer

Feb 18 13 010 Awake to Spring

Good Morning

“If you cannot find time to pray, ask for forgiveness.
Ask to be cleansed of the sin of having no time to pray …
It could be that Satan is pushing you
into too much work so that you cannot take time to pray.”
– Corrie Ten Boom

“The work of praying is prerequisite
to all other work in the Kingdom of God.
It is by prayer that we couple the powers of heaven
to our helplessness and make the impossible possible.”
– O. Hallesby

Continue earnestly in prayer,
being vigilant in it with thanksgiving

February 21, Today’s thought – Preparation

Feb 14 walk around
Every Thursday, the Farmer does his ‘walk around’.
He walks around the sanctuary, the hall,
the parking lot, tree pits and flower beds
checking for weeds, broken branches and trash,
diligently as a good steward of the church property.

Good Morning

Like as a father pitieth his children,
so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.
For he knoweth our frame;
he remembereth that we are dust.
Psalm 103:13-14

If the village house in Nazareth
which they show tourists nowadays is anything
like the one where the little boy Jesus lived,
it was not much to speak of,
by comparison with the ivory palaces He had left.
He at whose word creation sprang into being
was subject to the word of His mother Mary.
He whose hands had made the worlds
learned obedience in a dusty carpenter shop.
When Joseph showed Him how to use a tool,
did he hold the little hands in his and say,
“Like this, Hold it this way”?
The boy had to learn.
He did not make tables and benches by divine fiat.
He made them with tools held in human hands.
He had to lean the skills,
learn to be thorough, dependable, prompt, faithful
If He was ever tempted to cut corners.
He did not yield to the temptation. . . .
Surely He was gracious with the customers.
He grew “in favor with God and man.”
The cheerful acceptance of humble work,
the small testings of any boy’s home life were a part of His preparation
for the great testings of His public years,
a part of the road which led Him to the cross.

February 19, Today’s thought – Hidden Places

Feb 18 13 006I live these early white bells in spring.

Good Morning

Out of the south cometh the whirlwind:
and cold out of the north.
By the breath of God frost is given:
and the breadth of the waters is straitened. Job 37:9-10

In the winter, when the world is simplified
the subtler and humbler beauties can appear to us.
White snow and the dull grays and browns of winter vegetation
let anything with a bit of color show up more clearly.
Red holly berries, or rose hops on their dry canes,
or the enduring green of pine trees call us to closer observation.
Even a blue jay stands out.
The simplicity and starkness of a winter scene bring
to our attention creatures we overlook in other seasons.
The beauty of such small and humble things
is an especially important expression of holiness for us,
who are so easily impressed by size and ostentation.
Sometimes we see new things in truly unlooked-for places.
One day I was standing by a hole
in the ice on a small frozen river.
Glancing underneath the ice,
I saw an icicle hanging down toward the water.
It was short and squat, but clear as glass,
with a beautiful and perfect swirling shape.
It had never occurred to me that there was anything
at all on the bottom side of ice sheets. . .
Much of the holiness of winter (and of all the seasons)
is in such hidden places,
where God for a Creator’s own delight
has left a beauty seldom found by human eyes.

February 18, Today’s thought-God Loves You

red in the sunBrother Bob’s Ol’ Red sleeping in the sun.

Good Morning

God’s great love let Him
to send send His only begotten Son
as a sacrifice for our sin,
that we might escape
the punishment we deserve.
He did this because He loves us.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

How tenderly God must look upon
those who have lost a beloved son or daughter.
What compassion He feels for those with
lifelong physical deformities and diseases.
This identification with the woes of mankind is
a major theme of scripture.

Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved. Psalm 55:22

In God’s value system we are all important.
He loves every one of us the same.

Thou shalt no more be termed Forsaken; neither shall thy land any more be termed Desolate: . . .for the LORD delighteth in thee, . . .Isaiah 62:4

One of the most breathtaking concepts in all
of scripture is the revelation
that God knows each of us personally
and that we are in His mind both day and night.

What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him? Psalm 8:4

There is simply no way to comprehend the full
implications of the love
the King of kings
Lord of lords
has for us.

O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me. Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off. Psalm 139:1-2

God continues to love us–even
when we are angry at Him.

O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever. Psalm 107:1

Never assume God’s silence
or apparent inactivity is evidence
of His disinterest.

Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it. Psalm 37:34

Admittedly, the Lord doesn’t always
solve our problems instantaneously,
and He sometimes permits us to walk
through the valley of the shadow of death.
But He is there with us even in the darkest hours,
and we can never escape His encompassing love.

Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand. Psalm 73:23

Every description given to us in scripture
depicts God as infinitely loving and king.
tenderly watching over His earthly children
and guiding the steps of the faithful.

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker. For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice, Harden not your heart, Psa 95:6-8

God hears the faintest cry of the sick,
the lonely, the despised of the world.
And He care–deeply–about each one.

I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry. Psalm 40:1

God’s heart is especially tender
toward the downtrodden and the defeated.
He knows your name and
He has seen every tear you have shed.

The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Psalm 34:18

Who can know how often the Lord quietly protects us,
redirects us, or leads us on safer paths?

The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD. Proverbs 16:1

February 16, Today’s thought — Perfect Gifts

Feb 14 002Seedlings be a growin’

Good Morning

For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me,
and have believed that I came out from God. John 16:27

I often see,
shining in the deep blue of the sky just before dawn,
the morning star.
At twilight the sea sometimes reflects
the pale rose and daffodil colors of the sunset.
At night I awaken to find the room flooded
with moonlight reflected from the sea,
from the glass top of my desk by the window,
and from the mirror of the dressing table.
Flying at thirty thousand feet,
I have seen glorious light shining
on the towers and castles of thunderheads.
What gifts are these lights of heaven!
The same Father who gives them
also gives us all other good and perfect things.
It is God’s nature to give.
He can no more “help” giving than He can “help” loving.
We can absolutely count on it
that He will give us everything
that can possibly help us to be and do what He wants.
How can He not do this?

February 14, Today’s thought – Resist the Clamor

june 16 014Not only resisting the clamor, but ignoring it completely!

Good Morning

Seek the LORD, and his strength:
seek his face evermore. Psalm 105:4

Relax in my healing presence.
as you spend time with Me,
your thoughts tend to jump ahead
to today’s plans and problems.
Bring your mind back to me
for refreshment and renewal.
Let the Light of my Presence soak
into you as you focus your thoughts on me.
Thus I equip you to face whatever the day brings.
This sacrifice of time pleases Me
and strengthens you.
Do not scrimp on our time together.
Resist the clamor of tasks waiting to be done.
You have chosen what is better,
and it will not be taken away from you.
~~~Sarah Young, Jesus Calling
And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. February 10, Today’s thought – God is There
Feb 10 grassthe Farmer’s new project; new lawn for summer enjoyment
Good Morning
Even when Life does not make sense,
God has not lost control of our lives.
He wants us to trust Him.
His presence is very near.
Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; Psalm 33:18
If you are considering giving up on live…
that is precisely what Satan would have you do:
Give up on God,
who seems to have lost control of your circumstances.
But God knows what He’s doing; Don’t leave HIs protection.
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1
Establish your foundation
not on fluctuation emotions
but on the authority
of the written Word of God.
It says Jesus promised
never to leave us.
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, . . .Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:19-20
When your faith is severely shaken,
where do you go to find a new set of values and beliefs?
While searching for something more reliable in which to believe,
you will discover that there is no other name–
no other God–
to whom you can turn.
For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee. Isaiah 54:10
We are promised throughout scripture
that we are never left to fight our battles alone.
That is great news for all
who are weary and burdened
by the stresses of living.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Romans 5:1
Christ remains wit us
to comfort and protect us when
we go through our fiery trials.
He never leaves .
Psa 125:2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.
February 9, Today’s thought – Compassion
Feb9 001Violets heralding the coming of Spring.
Good Morning
When Jesus heard of it,
(the beheading of John the Baptist)
he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart:
and when the people had heard thereof,
they followed him on foot out of the cities.
And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude,
and was moved with compassion toward them,
and he healed their sick.
Matthew 14:13-14 italics are mine
Webster’s: sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it
In the midst of Christ’s sorrow and grief,
he was consciously sympathetic toward others.
The Greek word for compassion is splanchnizomai,
which won’t mean much to you unless you are in the health professions
and studied “stlanchnology” in school.
If so, you remember that “splanchology” is a study of . . the gut.
When Matthew writes that Jesus had compassion on the people,
he not saying that Jesus felt casual p;pity for them.,
No, the term is far more graphic.
Matthew is saying that Jesus felt their hurt in his gut:
He felt the limp of the crippled.
He felt the hurt of the diseased.
He felt the loneliness of the leper.
He felt the embarrassment of the sinful.
And once he felt their hurts,
he couldn’t help but heal their hurts.
Februay 7, Today’s thought – Colossians 3:12-17
Feb5 you know its spring 002Spring is on the way.
Good Morning
This morning I read again one of my favorite scriptures, Colossians 3:12-17.
What a beautiful check list for daily living.
Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved,
bowels of mercies,
kindness,
humbleness of mind,
meekness,
longsuffering;
Forbearing one another,
and forgiving one another,
if any man have a quarrel against any:
even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
And above all these things put on charity,
which is the bond of perfectness.
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts,
to the which also ye are called in one body;
and be ye thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him.
Follow Christ’s example. . . Today
Perfect beautiful examples of yarn cakes.
Good Morning
Why standest thou afar off, O LORD?
why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble? Psalm 10:1
God is “a very present help in trouble.”
But He permits trouble to pursue us,
as though He were indifferent to its overwhelming pressure,
that we may be brought to the end of ourselves,
and let to discover the treasure of darkness
the unmeasurable gains of tribulation.
We may be sure the He who permits the suffering is with us in it.
It may be that we shall see Him only when the trial is passing;
but we must dare to believe that He never leaves the crucible.
Our eyes are holden;
and we cannot behold Him whom our soul loveth.
It is dark–
the bandages blind us so that we cannot see
the form of our High Priest;
but He is there, deeply touched.
Let us not rely on feeling,
but on faith in His unswerving fidelity;
and though we see Him not,
let us talk to Him.
Directly we begin to speak to Jesus,
as being literally present,
though His presence is veiled,
there comes an answering voice
which shows that He is in the shadow,
keeping watch upon His own.
Your Father is as near
when you journey through the dark tunnel
as when under the open heaven!
February 4 – Today’s thoughts – It Takes Sorrow
Feb413 buster 002I love my silly cat’s face.
Good Morning
Sorrow is better than laughter:
for by the sadness of the countenance
the heart is made better. Ecclesiastes 7:3
When sorrow comes under the power of Divine grace,
it works out a manifold ministry in our lives
Sorrow reveals unknown depths in the soul,
and unknown capabilities of experience and service…
Sorrow makes us go slower and more considerately,
and introspect our motives and dispositions.
It is sorrow that open up within us
the capacities of the heavenly life,
and it is sorrow that makes us willing to launch our capacities
on a boundless sea of service for God and our fellows.
God never uses anybody to a large degree,
until after He breaks that one all to pieces.
Joseph had more sorrow than all the other sons of Jacob,
and it let him out into a ministry of bread for all nations.
For this reason,
the Holy Spirit said of him.
“Joseph is a fruitful bough. .. by a well,
whose branches run over the wall” (Genesis 49:22).
It takes sorrow to widen the soul.~~The Heavenly Life.
Every person and every nation must take lessons
in God’s school of adversity.
“We can say, ‘Blessed is night, for it reveals to us the stars.’
In the same way we can say,
‘Blessed is sorrow , for it revels God’s comfort.’
The floods washed away home and mill,
all the poor man had in the world.
But as he stood on the scene of his loss,
after the water had subsided.,
broken-hearted and discouraged,
he saw something shining in the bank
which the waters had washed bare.
‘It looks like gold’, he said.
It was gold.
The flood which had beggared him made him rich.
So it is ofttimes in life.”~~H. C. Trumbull
February 2, Today’s thought – He That Goeth with Thee
Jan713 sky 9am 001The eastern sky at 9am one January morning,
a beautiful start of a new day.
“This is the day the Lord hath made, I will rejoice and be glad.”
Good Morning
Be strong and of a good courage,
fear not, nor be afraid of them;
for the Lord thy God ,
he it is that doth go with thee;
he will not fail thee,
nor forsake thee.
Deuteronomy 31:6
There is something very encouraging in the idea of a new start.
We should keep short accounts with God,
and live not only day by day but moment by moment.
This the staleness will disappear from life.
His mercies will be new new every morning,
and each experience will come to us like living waters
fresh from the fountains of his love and grace.
There is something most attractive in the idea of a new discovery,
an unexplored land,
a fresh advanced on new territory,
and new achievements.
How it lures the adventurer to the frigid zones,
and the dangerous tropics!
God has for each of us great and mighty things
which we know not,
and visions of truth and attainment which
“eye hath not seen nor ear heard,
neither hath it entered into the heart of man,
the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.”
Let us press farther on!
February 1, Today’s thought – Bring Your Offering
Jan3113 kal hat 003Just a cozy ‘hairball’.
Ponderings on the lesson brought in the Thursday night meeting.
Deuteronomy 16:16-17 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty: Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.
Whenever we come together in the place God shall choose to worship Him, bring your offering of praise.
Psalms 70:4 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.
If you are burdened and heavy with trials and situations of life and seem to have no praise. Don’t draw back from God, come near with your offering of submission to His perfect will.
1Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
January 28, Today’s thought — One Step at a Time
hat jan2913 002
Good Morning
Thy word is like a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105
Arthur Hays Sulzberger was the publisher of the New York Ties during the Second World War. Because of the world conflict, he found it almost impossible to sleep. He was never able to banish worries from his ind until he adopted as his motto these five words–“one step enough for me”–taken from the hymn “Lead Kindly Light.”
God isn’t going to let you see the distant scene either. So you might as well quit looking for it. He promises a lamp unto our feet, not a crystal ball into the future. We do not need to know what will happen tomorrow.
God is leading you.
Leave tomorrow’s problems until tomorrow.
Max Lucado, Traveling Light
Lead Kindly Light
Lead, kindly Light, amid th’encircling gloom, lead Thou me on!
The night is dark, and I am far from home; lead Thou me on!
Keep Thou my feet; I do not ask to see
The distant scene; one step enough for me.
I was not ever thus, nor prayed that Thou shouldst lead me on;
I loved to choose and see my path; but now lead Thou me on!
I loved the garish day, and, spite of fears,
Pride ruled my will. Remember not past years!
So long Thy power hath blest me, sure it still will lead me on.
O’er moor and fen, o’er crag and torrent, till the night is gone,
And with the morn those angel faces smile, which I
Have loved long since, and lost awhile!
Meantime, along the narrow rugged path, Thyself hast trod,
Lead, Savior, lead me home in childlike faith, home to my God.
To rest forever after earthly strife
In the calm light of everlasting life.
