Sunday Bible Reading – Psalm 146

Mar 15 pussy willowPussy willow and Jonquil at Cozy Acres

Good Morning

Psalms 146

Praise ye the LORD.
Praise the LORD, O my soul.
While I live will I praise the LORD:
I will sing praises unto my God
while I have any being.
Put not your trust in princes,
nor in the son of man,
in whom there is no help.
His breath goeth forth,
he returneth to his earth;
in that very day his thoughts perish.
Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help,
whose hope is in the LORD his God:
Which made heaven, and earth, the sea,
and all that therein is:
which keepeth truth for ever:
Which executeth judgment for the oppressed:
which giveth food to the hungry.
The LORD looseth the prisoners:
The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind:
the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down:
the LORD loveth the righteous:
The LORD preserveth the strangers;
he relieveth the fatherless and widow:
but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.
The LORD shall reign for ever,
even thy God, O Zion,
unto all generations.
Praise ye the LORD.

The Lord shall reign for ever
Therefore he can never fail; and he is thy God, O Zion.
Hitherto he has helped you and your fathers;
and has extended that help from generation to generation.
Therefore trust in him and bless the Lord. Clarke’s

I had blocks together and half the binding on and procrastinated.
Not now…
Not today….
Yes, today, but didn’t do it….
Later today, ran out of today………….
so when the load of quilt gets heavy enough ……
DO IT NOW!

So in one and half hours border on,
mitered corners stitched,
back seamed and everything pressed.
WHY …OH…WHY…do I procrastinate ?
My friend could have had her quilt a month ago.
Thank you for your patience.

March 22, Today’s thought – Green Jeans and Soggy Bottoms

ishepmages

Good Morning

“He makes me lay down in green pastures,
he leads me beside still waters.” Psalm 23:2

It’s kind of nice at first,
especially if your life has been a whirlwind of activity;
running to and fro,
closing deals and climbing the never ending ladder;
burning the candle at both ends;
living on the edge;
coming apart at the seams.
A getaway to a nice balmy meadow,
next to a gentle babbling brook
is just what the doctor ordered;
all we need now is Bambi and Thumper
and the picture is complete.
Like I said, it’s kind of nice — at first.
But as the days turn to weeks,
and then draw into months…
and then years —
green and wet can get a little old.
But the Lord is not fooling around here.
He’s after something far more valuable
than you being a success,
as this world defines it.
He is after you being the man or woman
He created you to be.
And to this end He will make you lay down —
even if you don’t want to.
He will lead you by still waters,
even though you scramble to go somewhere else.
And why is He doing this?
So that your trust will be in Him —
and not in your own fleshly striving.
If you can somehow get up and walk away,
then the Lord is not your Shepherd.
And you will never know
the indescribable payoff that awaits
all those with green jeans and soggy bottoms.

“He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yes, even when I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil — for He is with me. His rod and staff comfort me. He prepares a banquet table for me in the presence of my enemies, and anoints my head with oil. Goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life — and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

But you go ahead and walk away;
I’m sure you’ll find the finer fashions
of this world more suitable to your blank eyes, and hollow chest.
And, no doubt,
the whirlwind will sweep you up in such a buzz
that you’ll not visit these parts again.

Until you are made to lay down in gray linen on a cold stone.

Accept God’s leading. . . Today
With my prayers, desiring yours, Leslie

March 21, Today’s thought – The Bible

482012 001

Good Morning,

Now these are the commandments, the statutes,
and the judgments,
which the LORD your God commanded to teach you,
that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it:
That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God,
to keep all his statutes and his commandments,
which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son,
all the days of thy life;
and that thy days may be prolonged.
Deuteronomy 6:1-2

The Bible is a beautiful palace,
built up out of sixty-six blocks of marble–its separate books.
In the first chapter of Genesis we enter the vestibule,
which is filled with the mighty acts of creation.
The vestibule gives access to the law courts,
the five books of Moses.
Passing through these we come to the picture gallery
of the historical books.
Here we find hung upon the walls scenes of battle fields,
representations of heroic deeds, and portraits of eminent men
belonging to the early days of the world’s history.
Beyond the picture gallery we find the philosopher’s chamber,
the Book of Job.
Passing on we enter the music room, the Book of Psalms,
where we listen to the grandest strains
that ever fell on human ears.
Then we come to business office, the Book of Proverbs,
where right in the center of the room stands facing us the motto:

“Righteousness exalteth a nation:
but sin is a reproach to any people.” Proverbs 14:34

From the business office we pass into the chapel of Ecclesiastes,
or the preacher in his pulpit,
and thence into the conservatory, the Song of Solomon,
with the rose of Sharon, the lily of the valley,
and all manner of fine perfumes, fruits, and flowers.
Finally we reach the observatory, the prophets,
with their telescopes fixed on near and distant stars,
and all directed toward the bright and morning star
that was soon to arise.

Crossing the court
we come to the audience chamber of the King, the Gospels,
where we find four lifelike portraits of the King Himself.
Next we enter the workroom of the Holy Spirit,
the Acts of the Apostles,
and beyond that the correspondence room, the Epistles,
where we see Paul and Peter and James and Jude
busy at their desks.
If you would know what they are writing about
their Epistles are open for all to study.

Before leaving we stand for a moment in the outside gallery,
the Revelation, where we look upon some striking pictures
of the judgment to come and the glories to be revealed,
concluding with an awe-inspiring picture
of the throne room of the King. W. Duns

Yarn Along – Knit, Frog, Knit

yarnalong_gsheller_gray

On Wednesday’s knitters go to Ginny’s to share all the wonderful projects being worked on, finished, frogged, cried over, and learned from. They also tell what they are reading and a little of the storyline or provoking thoughts. I think it is great. So many books, knitting ideas and hints on how to make knitting more enjoyable.

Miss Shirley’s Whippoorwill has been my main knit this week.
I was hoping to have it done for her birthday on Thursday,
now I’ll be glad if it is done by the of the month!
Presently I’m knitting on 467 stitches adding 2 stitches every row.
Today at the end of row 107 I had the wrong count
and found my mistake 16 stitches from the beginning,
that is a lot of stitches to frog.

Mar 19 whippoorwill 002

I added 225 (+/-) beads on row 102, that was a long row.
I’ll add 235 (+/-) beads on row 112,
and 284 (+/-) beads on the bind off.
Beads are 8/0-451 Met Hematite, a solid dark grey, with a polished metal sheen.
I use Oral B Super Floss to add the beads following
Laura Nelkin’s instructions here .

Heather’s baby blanket I love it!

Mar 19 heather 002

I love the way the the long colors of Schoppel-Wolle Crazy Zauberball striped in this blanket.

Shattered by Dick Francis was my knitting companion.
I like Dick Francis’ books, England and horse racing — a good mix.

If you click here you’ll see what’s happening at Ginny’s.

March 20, Today’s thought – Watching

Mar 15 busterGuarding the yarn remnants.

Good Morning

Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not,
neither do they reap, nor gather into barns;
yet your heavenly Father feedeth them.
Are ye not much better than they?
Matthew 6:26

How do you measure you value?
Dollars in the bank?
Cars in the driveway?
Letters after your name?
During the Depression,
you were something special
if you had a little meat on your bones.
That meant you were prosperous,
that nobody at your house was starving.
People could see you were well cared for,
and for that matter,
cared about.

Well, suppose we. . .look at the birds of the air.
Have you ever seen a skinny bird?
Maybe if it were sickly and couldn’t fly off to find food,
but the ones in the air are plump and healthy and flying high.
Even though they have no food stored up for tomorrow,
they seem to be doing fine today on the food
that their heavenly Father has provided…
And Jesus said we are of more value to God
than those happily fed birds,
meaning he will look out for all our needs,
not just physical, but spiritual needs, too.

Chatting on the Deck

Everyday Ruralty

“Chats on the Farmhouse Porch” is a group of friends
gathering to visit,
sip their favorite beverages,
nibble delicious treats
and share their likes and dislikes.

Patrice and Wendell have invited me to join the chatting.
Patrice provides the questions,
we answer.

Furry Bottoms asks: Did you grow up in a small town, or a big town? Did you like it?

During school years, I lived in small towns or rural areas.
I loved it walk to school, stores, library, the pool in the summer.
I always felt safe, good times.

Lisa wants to know: If you could pick one song to hear for the rest of your life, what would it be?

This one is hard, but I guess the song
I could listen to for a long, long time
is sung by the Cathedral’s in this link.
My song “Don’t Be Afraid”
http://youtu.be/giWalWKIOaA
(Chorus)
So don’t be afraid when the darkness is closing
The Master is near, His voice calms every storm
So when the world says it’s over, the Master says, “No, I’ve just begun”
In your darkest of times, whether rain or in sunshine, don’t be afraid

Karen asks: What are your pet peeves?

Drivers that pull out in front of me,
causing me to slow down
and when I look in the rear view mirror
there is no one on the road for a mile.

Colletta says: Do you remember your dreams? Are they in color or black and white? What is the craziest dream you’ve ever had?

My worst dream/nightmare was floating eyeballs,
getting closer, receding = scary to me.
Then it was hard to go back to sleep
because I kept seeing th eyeballs.
I can see them now.
I hope I’m not setting myself up for a wakeful night.

Rachel asks: What is the perfect pair of shoes for you?

Oh my poor feet,
these days they prefer something comfortable with a little heel.
Shoes that don’t draw attention to themselves,
I don’t like people looking at my feet.

Ten on Tuesday – Random Thoughts

ToT-Button

On Tuesday’s Carole hosts ‘Ten on Tuesdays’.
She chooses a topic – we list ten items.

Ten on Tuesday – Random Thoughts on your Mind

This should be easy.
I think I am the queen of random.
My brain seems to flit form topic to topic
like a bumblebee,
without the honey to show for all the work.

1.  I am thankful the Farmer fixed my roller ball mouse with his trusty soldering gun and pointy pliers and things.
Mar 18 roller ball

2.  Making plans to go to Oregon on Friday for sister-in-law’s 80th birthday party on Saturday:
when to leave…stop and visit mother-in-law in Redding, CA…
snacks to take…what to pack …is everything clean…
can I fit in a stop at the yarn shop in Ashland. OR . . .
what knitting to take mustn’t run out yarn
(yes, must stop at that yarn shop)…
check and see if there is a yarn shop in Medford, OR?

3.  Oh, yes, the laundry!

4.  Feeling guilty because a quilt is waiting patiently on the ironing board for two borders to sewn on; so it can go to the quilter, my lovely daughter Quilt’m Sunflower Designs, and then to the enormously patient friend in Washington. How I wish I could deliver it in person!

(last spring when just started – I just like this happy picture)

5.  What to make for dinner?

6.  It’s time to sweep the floor.

7.  Add paper towels to the shopping list, and a card for above birthday.

8.  Grizz just jumped through the cat door for a visit/nap on top of the ironing board.

9.  Just two more to go then I can knit, after I start the laundry.

10.   Click on Carole Knits to see other ‘random thought‘ lists.

P.s. I wrote this on Monday – laundry is done,  I didn’t sweep.

March 19, Today’s thought — Inspired

Mar 8 bulbs 006

Good Morning

“We’re doing our best setting things right.”
2 Corinthians 6:7, The Message

In 1907 Grant C. Tullar wrote,

“Hear ye the Master’s call, ‘Give Me thy best!’
For, be it great or small, that is His test.
Do then the best you can, not for reward,
not for the praise of man — but for the Lord.
Every work for Jesus will be blessed;
but He asks from everyone his best.
Our talents may be few, these may be small —
but unto Him is due our best, our all.”

Are you giving your best?
Or, like so many others,
do you just cruise along merely doing only what is acceptable.

Paul the Apostle said,

“Whether we are at home with the Lord or away from him, we still try our best to please him”
(2 Corinthians 5:9 CEV).

Indeed, we are called to do our best
at setting things right in a world gone wrong.
Nothing more could be asked,
and nothing less would be acceptable.

The story is told of how the great Leonardo Da Vinci
had started work on a large canvas in his studio.
A few of his students watched as he worked at it —
choosing the subject,
planning the perspective,
sketching the outline,
and applying the colors;
all with his own inimitable genius.
Then he unexpectedly paused,
the painting still unfinished,
and, summoning one of his students,
invited him to step up and complete the work.
The student protested that he was unworthy
and unable to complete the great painting
which his master had begun.
But Da Vinci answered,
“Will not what I have done inspire you to do your best?”

Do you think that Jesus might be saying a similar thing to you?
Your life can honor God greatly,
and benefit some many others in positive and lasting ways.
Everything you need
for this has already been provided by Jesus.
Believe it,
take hold of it,
press on with it,
and give it your best shot.
Surely you can do no less,
seeing how much He has done already.

Finish the painting, my friend —
for Jesus believes in you.  Rylie

March 18, Today’s thought – Success

Mar 14 001the Farmer has dug up all the grass at Cozy Acres,
defined two flower areas with river rock borders,
planted flowers I brought home from Grandma Crain’s
and hopes to sow grass seed this week.

Good Morning

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you.  James 4:8

Perhaps nothing diverts us from focused living
more than our concept of success.
Published studies inform us
of what conveys power in body language,
business lunches, and the cars we strive.
We ‘dress for success.’
Society is not only preoccupied with the image of success,
but for the most part is dependent on
someone else to define success. . . .
Was Jesus successful?
He had no home of his own.
The successful people of His day viewed Him skeptically,
if not with hostility.
His followers were a ragtag bunch
without social or political influence.
And even this motley crew fell away
as He approached the Cross.
None of His disciples
accompanied Him in His darkest hour.
He had neither wealth, political power,
or unusual physical beauty. . .
Jesus measured His own success by one criterion:
“I came. . .not to my will
but to do the will of him who sent me” John 6:38.
“I finished the work.”

Sunday Bible Reading – Psalm 147:1-12

Mar 14 002Inside a Tulip

Good Morning

Psalm 147:1-12

Praise ye the LORD:
for it is good to sing praises unto our God;
for it is pleasant;
and praise is comely.
The LORD doth build up Jerusalem:
he gathereth together the outcasts of Israel.
He healeth the broken in heart,
and bindeth up their wounds.
He telleth the number of the stars;
he calleth them all by their names.
Great is our Lord, and of great power:
his understanding is infinite.
The LORD lifteth up the meek:
he casteth the wicked down to the ground.
Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving;
sing praise upon the harp unto our God:
Who covereth the heaven with clouds,
who prepareth rain for the earth,
who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
He giveth to the beast his food,
and to the young ravens which cry.
He delighteth not in the strength of the horse:
he taketh not pleasure in the legs of a man.
The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him,
in those that hope in his mercy.
Praise the LORD, O Jerusalem;
praise thy God, O Zion.

Praise God. . .Today

The Saga of Alpaca Sox

Once upon a time. . .
Alpaca said, “I want to be a shawl and live with Miss Shirley.”
the Knitter said, “I can help knit.”
Alpaca said, “Have you seen the pattern, Whippoorwill?”
the Knitter said, “No, but I’m a friend of Ravelry;
and I can ask her.”
So the Knitter did.
Whippoorwill was willing to come to the Knitter’s house.
the Knitter made yarn cakes.

A moment of decision: Should beads be added to the grey accents?
the Knitter took very little time to decide.
Off to the bead shop she went.
And found the perfect beads.
Home again, home again. . .

and began to add the 224 beads needed for that row.

March 16, Today’s thought – Spiritual Treasure Chest

Feb 14 sillyAdvice from Taco Bell

Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counsellors.
Psalm 119:24

How do you feel when you find
that wad of cash you hid
in your sock drawer for safekeeping
and forgot about?
Or when you find the diamond
that dropped out of your engagement ring?
Or when you find the child
who got away from you
in the shopping mall and wandered out of your sight.

You rejoice.

For each is a rich treasure,
and finding it brings joy.
But God’s Word offers so much more.
Unlike any other treasure
it offers peace of mind
to those who love and pursue it.
Unlike any valuable,
the Word of God gives strength, vigor,
and energy to live
without stumbling in weariness or fear.
Open your spiritual treasure chest today
and dig deep.

March 15, Today’s Thought – Hope

Mar 9 13 eggs 004the Farmer’s chickens are busy.

Good Morning

Hebrews 11:1
Now faith means
putting our full confidence in the things we hope for,
it means being certain of things we cannot see.

Romans 8:24-25
We were saved by this hope,
but in our moments of impatience
let us remember
that hope always means waiting
for something that we haven’t yet got.
But if we hope for something we cannot see,
then we must settle down to wait for it in patience.

March 14, Today’s thought – Just in Time

Mar 11

Good Morning,

Daniel 6:16,19-22
Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel,
and cast him into the den of lions.
Now the king spake and said unto Daniel,
Thy God whom thou servest continually,
he will deliver thee
.
. . . Then the king arose very early in the morning,
and went in haste unto the den of lions.
And when he came to the den,
he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel:
and the king spake and said to Daniel,
O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God,
whom thou servest continually,
able to deliver thee from the lions?
Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever.
My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions’ mouths,
that they have not hurt me:
forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me;
and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt.

Look at Jonah in the fish belly–
surrounded by gastric juices and sucked in seaweed. . .
He prays. . .
Before he can say amen,
the belly convulses,
the fish belches,
and Jonah lands face first on the beach.

Look at Daniel in the lions’ den;
his prospects aren’t much better than Jonah’s.
Jonah had been swallowed,
and Daniel is about to be . . .

Or look at Joseph in the pit,
a chalky hole in a hot desert.
The lid had been pulled over the top
and the wool had been pulled over his eyes. . .
Like Jonah and Daniel,
Joseph is trapped.
He is out of options.
There is no exit.
There is no hope. . .
Though the road to the palace
takes a detour through a prison,
it eventually ends up at the throne. . .

Such are the stories in the Bible.
One near death experience after another.
Just when the neck is on the chopping block,
just when the noose is around he neck.
Calvary comes.
