Yarn Along – I Love Knitting

On Wednesday’s knitters go to Ginny’s to share all the wonderful projects being worked on, finished, frogged, cried over, and learned from. They also tell what they are reading and a little of the storyline or provoking thoughts. I think it is great. So many books, knitting ideas and hints on how to make knitting more enjoyable.

Whippoorwill is finished and around Miss Shirley’s shoulders.
This cowl is coming along well.

Mystery Minerva KAL –

I had to restart several times,
then when I finally kept a correct stitch count
and enough rows,I could finally read my knitting
and see when I goofed.
I’m on clue 1, knitting the short rows.

Just finished reading ‘Love Anthony’ by Lisa Genova.
I highly recommend it – theme autism.
This is the third book I’ve read by Genova like them all.

Yarn Along – Yarn and Garden

April’s Scrap jar,
not many yarn ends,
but a lot of crocheting and knitting was going on.
If you look close you can see
how the Farmer has been spending his time,
3 1/2 -75ft long rows of tomatoes
and assorted peppers, bells and hot.
Broccoli and cauliflower planed under the grape vines.
Raspberries, blackberries and boysenberries growing like mad
behind the grapes

Brittany’s granny square is finished
and wrapped around ‘sweet one’.

Over half of the 500+ stitches is bound off –
soon Miss Shirley’s shawl will go home.
I’m not sure when blocking pictures will post,
I’ll be out of town next Wednesday.

Shhhhhh, I know it is a quilt. . .
One step closer to being completed.
One side of the binding machine sewn on,
I’ll turn and hand sew the other side Thursday.

That is if I can get Grissabel
to give up her napping bed for a couple hours.

I finished listen to Cold Truth by Mariah Stewart,
an easy to listen to mystery.
Today I’ll start Mr. Penumbra’s 24 hour Bookstoree
by Robin Sloan, today.

Yarn Along – This and That

Our Rv is to the left of this flower bed, our good neighbor down the path.

Just two sides of this Granny Square and short enough pink to finish those rounds. Buying one more skein today. Finish the pink, 2 rounds of green and one row of green shells and it is done.

Two knitted hot pad dishcloths finished; on to the owner this afternoon.

16 more rows done on this Gratitude KAL, I like it

Whippoorwill needs just half a row left to bead and then bind off with a crocheted loop, crochet 2 together, chain 5. . .

With two projects almost done, I couldn’t resist. Another Mystery KAL, Laura Nelkin’s Juego. I have tried to do two of her mysteries. I started Kinetic, but was way beyond my abilities, then when I saw the pictures of finished shawls, I knew it wasn’t my style, so wasn’t very disappointed. The second KAL I was knitting well, but slowly – seeing the pictures knew again it wasn’t my style so didn’t finish it. I’m hoping I like this one.

Yarn Along – Hot Pads

A lot of Knitting and Crocheting is going on at Cozy Acres.
Whippoorwill is on the last two rows,
after a bump in the knitting about 15 rows back.
Granny square afghan is growing round by round.
I think I’ll do 1 or 2 more repeats of color;
then a scallop row in green to finish it.

A friend brought me some red and purple cotton yarn,
“Can you make dishcloths out of this?
I use them like hot pads”
I made hot pads.
Dishcloths, one each from the red and purple, are on the needles.

Re-reading On the Beach by Nevil Shute – 1963 catastrophic war – no life left on western hemisphere.

Radioactive winds heading south scheduled to arrive in Australia in three months. Good Read.

Yarn Along-The Bad, The Good, and a Wedding Gift

I’m having a big problem with Miss Shirley’s shawl.
Last week I told you I had to frog a long row,
this week I reknit the long row and the count is still off…:(
Doesn’t it look innocent?

Miss Brittany’s granny square is coming along – it’s my take-a-long knitting.

My dear friend’s daughter is getting married in April.
I’ll just use the ivory thread for the embroidery,
to give a white on white look to go with her ivory bedding.

I’m reading Plague of Memory by S. L. Viehl, one of the Star Doc series.
Viehl’s science fiction series is one I’ve really enjoyed.

Yarn Along – Knit, Frog, Knit

Miss Shirley’s Whippoorwill has been my main knit this week.
I was hoping to have it done for her birthday on Thursday,
now I’ll be glad if it is done by the of the month!
Presently I’m knitting on 467 stitches adding 2 stitches every row.
Today at the end of row 107 I had the wrong count
and found my mistake 16 stitches from the beginning,
that is a lot of stitches to frog.

I added 225 (+/-) beads on row 102, that was a long row.
I’ll add 235 (+/-) beads on row 112,
and 284 (+/-) beads on the bind off.
Beads are 8/0-451 Met Hematite, a solid dark grey, with a polished metal sheen.
I use Oral B Super Floss to add the beads following
Laura Nelkin’s instructions here .

Heather’s baby blanket – I love it!

I love the way the the long colors of Schoppel-Wolle Crazy Zauberball striped in this blanket.

Shattered by Dick Francis was my knitting companion.
I like Dick Francis’ books, England and horse racing — a good mix.

Yarn Along – New WIPs

I finished two projects, one gifted and loved;
the other at my daughter’s, Mary is the blocker extraordinaire.

Of course, as a reward for finishing, I could start something new.

400 yards of Posh Yarn, Hannah, Another Year Gone reminds me of the ocean.

Middle Beach with white pearly beads,
the beads are the foam on the tips of the waves.
I started with size 4 needles, but I’ll be frogging and restart on 6’s.

Why, I don’t know,
but I’ve been checking out Granny Squares on Ravelry.
Then I learned March is Crochet Month.

A baby afghan of one large granny square was inevitable.
At Babetta’s Yarn and Gifts, my favorite yarn store,
I searched until I found these:
Rialto in pink, green and white.

On a size F hook, two rows of color at a time
will become a baby girl’s blankie.

Miss Shirley’s shawl and Miss Deanna’s quilt are not being neglected in spite of the attraction of new WIPs

I am currently listening to The Distant Hour by Kate Morton

Yarn Along – A Finished Shawl and Februay’s Yarn Scraps

and ready for gifting.

Kathi loved it and wore it to Bible study the same night.

Since I was finishing large projects, not many ends to put into a jar, even the cat was bored.

I’ve never read The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkein;
I’m trying to listen to it and having a struggle getting into the story

Yarn Along – Knit and Hearts

This week knitting along on Heather’s baby blanket
and Kathi’s shawl;
I’m seeing progress on both.
Then Valentine’s Day slipped in
and I got sidetracked knitting heart bookmarks for ‘heart’ ones.

My audible listening has been The Thirteenth Tale
by Diane Setterfield. I enjoyed the book so much.

Yarn Along – Continuing my Knitting Plan -Plus

My plan for February is to work on three projects I need to finish by the end of March
I knit on at least two of them each day.

I impulsively cast on this vest because it was so cute.

I have a great-niece who is so cute,
actually I have more than one cute great niece, but McK gets this vest.

I’m on chart C, repeating row 23-28, then row 29-30, on to chart D

Yarn Along — Socks and a Shawl and Hats

Blocking so all the beauty of Noro could be seen

Having cold feet, I pull on my favorite wool socks……….with thread bare heels.
I stumbled across a pattern on a blog that looked easy.
I shortened the leg and in three days I had new socks.

I frogged the old socks,
cut out the bare strands
and wound into cakes,
ready to be reknit into my favorite wool socks.

A little hat knit from sock yarn that makes me seem so talented.

A KAL hat with Stitched Together, February 3 is the targeted finish date.

I’ve been listening to Marie Bostwick’s A Single Thread, A Thread of Truth, A Thread So Thin( this is where I am) and Threading the Needle series, a quilt shop, new friends and caring for one another even when they make hard to do so.

Yarn Along – After Christmas Hats

I have just a couple more of these wide ribbed beanies to knit, then I think I’m done…………but maybe three nieces’ children might like one; that’s just 6 more. 🙂

Next to cast on is this hat, Chrissy from Leicester, United Kingdom, at Stitched Together is having a KAL — I didn’t want to resist.

Yarn Along – More Hats

All I have knitted this past week is hats.
I have been making Wide Rib Beanies by Wooly Wormhead.
One recipient has asked for a longer hat,
so he could turn up the brim.
Not all the hats are given away yet.
I have a few more hats I want to make.
