Yarn Along – A Finished Shawl and Februay’s Yarn Scraps

On Wednesday’s knitters go to Ginny’s to share all the wonderful projects being worked on, finished, frogged, cried over, and learned from. They also tell what they are reading and a little of the storyline or provoking thoughts. I think it is great. So many books, knitting ideas and hints on how to make knitting more enjoyable.

Since I was finishing large projects, not many ends to put into a jar, even the cat was bored.

I’ve never read The Hobbit by J. R. R. Tolkein;
I’m trying to listen to it and having a struggle getting into the story

Yarn Along – Continuing my Knitting Plan -Plus

My plan for February is to work on three projects I need to finish by the end of March
I knit on at least two of them each day.

I impulsively cast on this vest because it was so cute.

I have a great-niece who is so cute,
actually I have more than one cute great niece, but McK gets this vest.

I’m on chart C, repeating row 23-28, then row 29-30, on to chart D

Yarn Along – More Hats

All I have knitted this past week is hats.
I have been making Wide Rib Beanies by Wooly Wormhead.
One recipient has asked for a longer hat,
so he could turn up the brim.
Not all the hats are given away yet.
I have a few more hats I want to make.

Yarn Along – Matching Tilly

I finished my Mother’s doxie’s sweater, and decided she needed a scarf to match. This scarf worked over 32 stitches, 8 stitches on each side worked in seed stitch with a 16 stitch cable down the middle and a 12 row repeat. Finished nice and quick. Picture of scarf doubled,it’s about 72 inches long.

December 5, Yarn Along — Yarn Nest

A Yarn Nest. dec5 004 Have you ever seen a yarn nest?
After a trip to the dermatologist and skin cancer freezing and removal,
I didn’t feel like being very active,
So I gathered current knitting projects and knit a while on one then another,
all moving toward completion.

dec5 001 Tilly’s sweater is coming together nicely, to bad the cables don’t show well with this yarn.
The sweater is knit flat and then seamed together under the belly.

dec5 002 Kathi’s Solstice, restarted on larger needles. I’m liking the lacier look.

dec5 003 Makenna’s wallaby, I usually have one on the needles.

I’ve been listening to Lauraine Snelling’s four book series, Ruby, Pearl, Opal and Amethyst, set in 1850’s in the Dakota badlands.

A Rainy ‘Yarn Along’ Day

A few weeks have passed since I joined Ginny. I’ve been knitting, but also seem to have little computer overload and haven’t been posting much.

A Wallaby sweater knit from Coffee Beenz is for a little guy
whose mom says “GO DUCKS.”
Just a few stitches to finish under the arms then in the mail it goes.

A baby afghan that needs just the weaving in to be finished.
Baby due January 6, can’t believe I almost finished
and it isn’t the night before I want to gift it.

I’m excited, this shawl is almost finished.
The edging was to be 2 inches wide,
but I’m just going to use up the yarn,
one and a half balls left –less than 200 yards.

September circle cowl is about 75% done.
I’ll make my Christmas deadline.

Thinking about hats for 6 grandsons, not sure if that isn’t too big a bite of yarn.

I’m reading Karen Harper’s Down to the Bone, starting chapter 5.

If I’m Not on the Computer; I’m Knitting

The title of this post tells of a simple life, gazing at others’ beautiful projects on the internet, dreaming I could make them all, some for me – some that would make the receiver swoon; playing games, I just got a new version of Luxor 🙂 and I’m challenging myself to complete once every configuration of Mah Jong, one pile took me over 200 hundred tries!
And then there is knitting, my current group –

Knitting shawlettes for littlies, I need 4,
making 5 so there is a choice.
Three are done, except weaving, latest finished, First Down

I knit until all I had was this much yarn leftover.

Zuni is another of that group, OPPS, see the little yarn mess.
I ran out of yarn. I bought more than called for,
apparently not enough.
So it is either go to Joann’s in Redding, CA
(local stores don’t have it)
or check out the internet.

AND, daycare mom is having a baby girl.
Instead of a quilt this time, I choose to knit an afghan.
This one starts with a garter stitch square,
pick up stitches around the edge and knit, knit, knit
until I chose to add a few rows of purl for interest.
I’m thinking about finding a blue and knitting on a lace border.

I keep running into cowl patterns, this one is knit with Zanderball Crazy, which I love, I had conquer this pattern, September Circle.

Not started but in the queue
(I’ll have to remember that word for scrabble)
is by request another sweater for Tilly, Mom’s doxie mix.
I really like ‘coffee beenz’ and since it is washable makes a good choice for a long low dog.

My listening pleasure – turn on the ipod and let it read from book to book.

Yarn Along — To Grandmother’s House I Go Knitting

Again I went to Grandma’s house;
I packed WIP’s with full intentions of working diligently.
BUT. . . . . . . .
I also grabbed some yarn on the way out the door. (giggle)

Zuni’s construction has captivated me,
ever since I first say it.
I just had to try to knit the shawl.
Challenges are good, right?
I bought this yarn while at Grandma’s; I have a certain young lady in mind.

I’m blaming the yarn on this one!
This yarn is so soft and silky and sneaky
that when I got to Grandma’s there it was!
First Down is being knit and knit and knit
because I want something bigger than a scarf
This yarn was also in the stash shed.
Started September 25

All of these will have their own project page in Ravelry as soon as I take a break from knitting.

I’ve posted pictures of this one before. I took it off its needles because I wanted to try that size on one of the above shawls. I love this shawl, everything about it I love. Kinda sad I keep getting side tracked, cuz’ it would be nice to have it finished. 🙂

Yarn Along – Just one or two more, please. . .

This is not my fault!
I was just pursuing Facebook checking in on the world and Babetta, at my FYS,
Babetta’s Yarn and Gifts, posted she was joining Nelkin Designs Blog: Trapeze Mystery KAL.
I looked, I pondered, I ordered the pattern.
This is my second mystery with Laura Nelkin. The first was way beyond my abilities, although I made a valiant effort.
She says this one isn’t as difficult. hummmmm.

I’m using Jagger Spun, Zephyr Silk/Wool, 50% Chinese Tussah silk and 50% Merino wool, Color: Lady Slipper, lot 1147. I have two 630 yard skeins, I’ll be holding the yarn double.

I will not begin to tell you how long it took me to get to this point. I worked and worked with the wool/silk, then finally got out some worsted yarn so I could see the stitches and have something substantial with which to knit. I figured out the pattern, it wasn’t really that hard just fiddly, got my fingers retrained to work with doublepoints again and knitting is going smoother. My Ravelry project page.

I have had Cowry Shell Shawl on my to do list since I saw it in Interweave Knits Accessorues, 2011. Right after I saw the pattern I did the first 96 rows – that makes one scallop – and liked it a lot. I wanted soft, smooshy yarn with good stitch definition. I admit I am a yarn snob, but knitting this in Red Heart Soft, 100% acrylic, in Wine (looks Christmasy Red to me), is meeting all my expectations. It will be such a warm cozy shawl this winter.

Looks like I’m ready to put this shawl on circular needles.
I hope I can find an empty size 6.

Yarn Along – I am a happy Shawl-aholic

On Wednesday’s knitters come to Ginny’s and Tami’s and share all the wonderful projects being worked on, finished, frogged, cried over, and learned from. they also tell what they are reading and a little of the storyline or provoking thoughts. Shelby’s Mochi Plus ruffled shawl starts with the ruffle, I have about 30 more short row repeats before I can start on the body (more short rows).

Hope’s Alpaca Sox shawl is working up nicely. A little pink for my taste, hopefully she will think it is wonderful, especially since Grandpa Red bought the yarn.

Babetta’s Yarn and Gifts, my favorite local yarn shop, had a sale.
I had had my eye on this pattern and Babetta had yarn.

Here is the beginnings of Sothia, in plum and composition black grey.

I’m listening to Flash and Bones by Kathy Reichs – I like her stories, but the language is annoying.

Yarn Along — When You Give a Knitter . . .

~ Two of my favorite things are knitting and reading,
. . .and joining ‘Yarn Along.’
I find sooooo many knitting and reading ideas; soooooooo little time!

One day a couple months ago upon hearing a knock at the door, I found my neighbor with a big smile on his face and a an old cardboard box in his hands.
” I found this today at the yard sale.”

Inside I found pink, ahhhh bright pink mohair yarn.

I said, “Oh, Shirley will like this” shuttering a little inside.

Shirley said “NO.”

When you give a knitter yarn with a big smile and a huge heart, she might make a fun, happy shawl for your young grand daughter!

Yarn Along, June 27 – KALs and Take A Longs

Knitting, reading, and Listening – Life is good.

Clue A of Wendy Knits Mystery KAL received on June 20. I was ready. Casting on, ripping off and casting on again. The first 8 rows of Summery Solstice Shawl completed. I liked it.

I liked it so much I had to try the shawl in ivory silk and wool. I know I can be obsessive compulsive at times. I hoping for a understated elegance with this shawl.

Since all but one of the projects I’m knitting I have sit with directions in front of me, I cast on another shawl of mindless garter stitch, I’m calling Muted Jazz. This is my to go project that I can knit on at stop lights, in parking lots, and at the Chiro’s.

I’m still listening to Inkspell by Cordila Funke and reading Driving Force by Dick Francis.
