December 24, Today’s thought – Speak Peace

P1030499Merry Christmas Eve

Good Morning

I have been reading Psalm 85 over and over
since our pastor mentioned it in a sermon recently.
These verses keep speaking to my heart.

Psalm 85:1-2,7-13
Lord, thou hast been favourable unto thy land:
thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.
Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people,
thou hast covered all their sin.
Selah. [pause, and calmly realize what that means]

Shew us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation.
I will hear what God the Lord will speak:
for he will speak peace unto his people,
and to his saints:
but let them not turn again to folly.
Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him;
that glory may dwell in our land.
Mercy and truth are met together;
righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
Truth shall spring out of the earth;
and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good;
and our land shall yield her increase.
Righteousness shall go before him;
and shall set us in the way of his steps.

How beautiful is the Word of God . . . Today
With my prayers, desiring yours, Leslie

A Garden Door

A door shut in my life that I never thought would shut. I never dreamed it would shut like it did. I was in shock, I wondered why, I laid the door at Jesus’ feet. He picked up the door and carried it away. He opened a new door to a garden. What a Mighty God I serve!

Simplicity is More Than Less

I like Simple Abundance by Sarah Ban Breathnach:

Simplicity does not mean making do with less,  but appreciating the important things more.  It means making deliberte decisions to surround yourself only with objects that inspire, comfort, soothe and serve you. Paring down to those essentials is more than just cleaning, organizing, or rearranging. Clearing away the clutter is a spiritual endeavor made up of choices, not chores, and the process itself can be as satisfying and empowering as the results: With every decision, you are creating a calm, clear space for your self. You are making room for wonderful new gifts to come into your life, such as order, serenity, and creativety.

Avoiding trouble

Evening tidbit

To avoid trouble, breathe through your nose. It keeps your mouth shut.

Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise:
and he that shutteth his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
Proverbs 17:28

Stars, Sparrows and Me

I spent Sept. 22-28th in Redding caring for my Mother-in-law. This is what my heart said:

Down a paved but pot-holed road on a mostly natural two acre piece
of land lives the “Flower Lady”. She has been taming this land by planting
flowers and bushes and trees and bulbs and grasses that would be good
to use in flower arrangements. Ground covers have been planted to help
keep the moisture in the soil. Fruit trees and grape vines are planted with
hope of a harvest, but the birds know exactly when the fruit is ripe.
A vegetable garden is found; fenced from deer and sun-screened from the
long hot days. This rocky, porous soil fights against taming, yet persistent
labor and a dream has worked a memorial to a great, grand lady.

In this place away from the busyness of life you’ll find peace and serenity,
birdsong and animal chatter. Here away from the lights of the world,
all the stars of the heavens can be seen. Here in this place faith assures us:
the God who knows the stars by name and watches each sparrow….cares for me.

It has been well remarked, It is not said that after keeping God’s commandments, but in keeping them there is great reward. God has linked these two things together, and no man can separate them—
obedience and peace. F. W. Robertsom

It Was

Moving on is about accepting what happened, not absolving it… You will mourn. Moan and groan and grieve. You are supposed to cry about these things. Kathryn L. Robyn

Committed

A week ago I was given some information about a situation that greatly affects me. As it stands, my plan for purchasing a house this year is on hold. When this was brought to my attention at first I was devastated. What was I going to do now? If I didn’t purchase before the end of November I won’t be able to take advantage of a tax credit. The housing prices are rising and I won’t be able to purchase for a long time. This dream seemed to have crashed to the ground and shattered in a million pieces…

But then the Lord came to me and asked if it was committed. Why yes the house is, the house on Merton was, but I had to work on getting the dream of a house by the end of this year committed, any house. As I worked the better part of that evening to get it all committed, the Lord brought such a great peace and comfort. I don’t have to be worried. And the prayer that I have prayed through this whole situation of, “Lord where ever, when ever and for how much” God knows what we can handle and if our desire is to be in his will, even if it is different than our own, he will give that grace and peace to be able to stand where he wants us to stand.

I am thankful to say that it is committed, the house on Merton, a house by November 31 and a house by the age of 25…God knows and will provide. If it is his will for me to have a house by any of these standards than it will be his miracle and he will definitely get all the honor and glory. If it isn’t his will, than we will just wait and see what it is, I am sure that it is destined to be the best for me and all those that are involved.

As for my offer on the house, I am not going to pull it, God is a big God. If it is his will, he will work it out. If it isn’t, he will work that out to. I just have to sit back, wait patiently and trust that whatever the outcome, it will be perfect.

Today’s Writing Prompt: Home

How do you feel when you walk into your home after an out of town trip?

Walking in the front door, my home gives me a hug.
Walking from room to room reacquainting with my things;
I feel peace and contentment.
Seeing the familiar and the constant, I’m home.

Now if only I didn’t have to unpack and …..

Beginnings

I begin this blog with a prayer:

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind
Drop Thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease,
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Thy peace.

John G. Whittier

And a scripture:

Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee. KJV
