In the hazy “tea leaves” I see:

by Cinda Thompson

Old people work

Side by side

She wears a hat

The old man boasts no hair

She moves

And he kneels

He digs

And she nods while

He speaks

To the seed

She ardently covers

Row by row

They rise and bend

Over their garden

On earth

Sunflowers will bloom

Late summer.

I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase. Now he that planteth and he that watereth are one: and every man shall receive his own reward according to his own labour. For we are labourers together with God: ….1Corinthians 3:6 -9

Lazy Day at Sea

October 22, 2009 written October 23, 2009

We were at sea this day, so were pretty lazy. Overcast in the morning so didn’t eat breakfast out side. We checked out different parts of the ship, did some shopping, 2 sweat shirts, and a cup with a lid for me, and a water bottle for Elmer.  Reading, knitting, and enjoying the ride were high on the list of activities.

We met for dinner dressing up a bit, Em wore her mink coat and cowboy boots. Elmer went back to the room, Mom checked out a couple performers on her own. I hung out with Mary and Em following them around. Some of the performers were pretty good, some we didn’t stay for very long. M & E pick seats so if they don’t like the act, they can leave easily with out disturbing anyone.

That is the end of October 22, 2009.  Good Night…Sleep Well…Love you

Being Home

“If a hungry friend came and knocked at your door on a cold night, you would graciously welcome her in, sit her by the fire, help her shed her wet, clumsy clothes. You’d give her a blanket to wrap herself in and a cup of hot soup to warm and nourish herself. Then, when she was well fed and comfortable, her story might emerge. Your hospitality, your love and acceptance would soothe your friend, and the soft warm light of your hearth would pull her out of her dark night. This is what our soul asks us to do for ourselves every night when we cross threshold to the hearth of our homes.”  Elizabeth Murray

I’m thankful to have a home that offers warmth and shelter and if on a good day, delicious food. The Lord has blessed me abundantly.

Stars, Sparrows and Me

I spent Sept. 22-28th in Redding caring for my Mother-in-law. This is what my heart said:

Down a paved but pot-holed road on a mostly natural two acre piece
of land lives the “Flower Lady”. She has been taming this land by planting
flowers and bushes and trees and bulbs and grasses that would be good
to use in flower arrangements. Ground covers have been planted to help
keep the moisture in the soil. Fruit trees and grape vines are planted with
hope of a harvest, but the birds know exactly when the fruit is ripe.
A vegetable garden is found; fenced from deer and sun-screened from the
long hot days. This rocky, porous soil fights against taming, yet persistent
labor and a dream has worked a memorial to a great, grand lady.

In this place away from the busyness of life you’ll find peace and serenity,
birdsong and animal chatter. Here away from the lights of the world,
all the stars of the heavens can be seen. Here in this place faith assures us:
the God who knows the stars by name and watches each sparrow….cares for me.

I begin this blog with a prayer:

Dear Lord and Father of Mankind
Drop Thy still dews of quietness,
Till all our strivings cease,
Take from our souls the strain and stress,
And let our ordered lives confess
The beauty of Thy peace.

John G. Whittier

And a scripture:

Isaiah 26:3
Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on thee:
because he trusteth in thee. KJV

Trust God for your day, Today
