February 10, Today’s thought – God is There

Feb 10 grassthe Farmer’s new project; new lawn for summer enjoyment

Good Morning

Even when Life does not make sense,
God has not lost control of our lives.
He wants us to trust Him.
His presence is very near.

Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; Psalm 33:18

If you are considering giving up on live…
that is precisely what Satan would have you do:
Give up on God,
who seems to have lost control of your circumstances.
But God knows what He’s doing; Don’t leave HIs protection.

God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Psalm 46:1

Establish your foundation
not on fluctuation emotions
but on the authority
of the written Word of God.
It says Jesus promised
never to leave us.

Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, . . .Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:19-20

When your faith is severely shaken,
where do you go to find a new set of values and beliefs?
While searching for something more reliable in which to believe,
you will discover that there is no other name–
no other God–
to whom you can turn.

For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee. Isaiah 54:10

We are promised throughout scripture
that we are never left to fight our battles alone.
That is great news for all
who are weary and burdened
by the stresses of living.

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: Romans 5:1

Christ remains wit us
to comfort and protect us when
we go through our fiery trials.
He never leaves .

Psa 125:2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

February 9, Today’s thought – Compassion

Feb9 001Violets heralding the coming of Spring.

Good Morning

When Jesus heard of it,
(the beheading of John the Baptist)
he departed thence by ship into a desert place apart:
and when the people had heard thereof,
they followed him on foot out of the cities.
And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude,
and was moved with compassion toward them,
and he healed their sick.
Matthew 14:13-14 italics are mine

Webster’s: sympathetic consciousness of others’ distress together with a desire to alleviate it

In the midst of Christ’s sorrow and grief,
he was consciously sympathetic toward others.

The Greek word for compassion is splanchnizomai,
which won’t mean much to you unless you are in the health professions
and studied “stlanchnology” in school.
If so, you remember that “splanchology” is a study of . . the gut.
When Matthew writes that Jesus had compassion on the people,
he not saying that Jesus felt casual p;pity for them.,
No, the term is far more graphic.
Matthew is saying that Jesus felt their hurt in his gut:
He felt the limp of the crippled.
He felt the hurt of the diseased.
He felt the loneliness of the leper.
He felt the embarrassment of the sinful.
And once he felt their hurts,
he couldn’t help but heal their hurts.

Februay 7, Today’s thought – Colossians 3:12-17

Feb5 you know its spring 002Spring is on the way.

Good Morning

This morning I read again one of my favorite scriptures, Colossians 3:12-17.
What a beautiful check list for daily living.

Put on therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved,
bowels of mercies,
kindness,
humbleness of mind,
meekness,
longsuffering;
Forbearing one another,
and forgiving one another,
if any man have a quarrel against any:
even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye.
And above all these things put on charity,
which is the bond of perfectness.
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts,
to the which also ye are called in one body;
and be ye thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom;
teaching and admonishing one another
in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
And whatsoever ye do in word or deed,
do all in the name of the Lord Jesus,
giving thanks to God and the Father by him.

Follow Christ’s example. . . Today

February 6, Today’s thought – Every where Very Present

Perfect beautiful examples of yarn cakes.

Good Morning

Why standest thou afar off, O LORD?
why hidest thou thyself in times of trouble? Psalm 10:1

God is “a very present help in trouble.”
But He permits trouble to pursue us,
as though He were indifferent to its overwhelming pressure,
that we may be brought to the end of ourselves,
and let to discover the treasure of darkness
the unmeasurable gains of tribulation.
We may be sure the He who permits the suffering is with us in it.
It may be that we shall see Him only when the trial is passing;
but we must dare to believe that He never leaves the crucible.
Our eyes are holden;
and we cannot behold Him whom our soul loveth.
It is dark–
the bandages blind us so that we cannot see
the form of our High Priest;
but He is there, deeply touched.
Let us not rely on feeling,
but on faith in His unswerving fidelity;
and though we see Him not,
let us talk to Him.
Directly we begin to speak to Jesus,
as being literally present,
though His presence is veiled,
there comes an answering voice
which shows that He is in the shadow,
keeping watch upon His own.
Your Father is as near
when you journey through the dark tunnel
as when under the open heaven!

Know God is very present. . .Today

Yarn Along – Continuing my Knitting Plan -Plus

yarnalong_gsheller_gray

On Wednesday’s knitters go to Ginny’s to share all the wonderful projects being worked on, finished, frogged, cried over, and learned from. They also tell what they are reading and a little of the storyline or provoking thoughts. I think it is great. So many books, knitting ideas and hints on how to make knitting more enjoyable.

My plan for February is to work on three projects I need to finish by the end of March
I knit on at least two of them each day.

I impulsively cast on this vest because it was so cute.

February 5, Time Out – Frazzzled by Life

KAL2012 003The second part of my favorite knitting toy;
the yarn is placed on the swift
and then threaded thru the metal guide
and on to the yarn winder.
After I turned the handle for a while
I get a yarn cake. Tomorrow’s picture.

Good Morning

If ye then, being evil,
know how to give good gifts unto your children,
how much more shall your Father which is in heaven
give good things to them that ask him? Matthew 7:11

A minister friend told me about a phone call he received one night.
At one or two in the morning, he was awakened by a caller
who was sobbing and rambling on in a way that made no sense.
Trying to wake up, calm the caller and make sense of the problem,
my friend became exasperated and said sternly,
“Now settle, down, get a grip on yourself and tell me your name.”
In a moment came the startled reply, “But, Dad, it’s me, Joel!.”
Instantly my friend was wide awake, totally sympathetic,
filled with love and compassion, listening to a tale of woe
only a college student pressured by grades, girls and loneliness can experience.
Why the sudden change?
It was his child.
No one on Earth mattered more to him.

When I am frazzled and call out to God,
He responds with total understanding, compassion and love.
For I am His child.
And so are you. ~~Eric Fellman

February 4 – Today’s thoughts – It Takes Sorrow

Feb413 buster 002I love my silly cat’s face.

Good Morning

Sorrow is better than laughter:
for by the sadness of the countenance
the heart is made better. Ecclesiastes 7:3

When sorrow comes under the power of Divine grace,
it works out a manifold ministry in our lives
Sorrow reveals unknown depths in the soul,
and unknown capabilities of experience and service…

Sorrow makes us go slower and more considerately,
and introspect our motives and dispositions.
It is sorrow that open up within us
the capacities of the heavenly life,
and it is sorrow that makes us willing to launch our capacities
on a boundless sea of service for God and our fellows.

God never uses anybody to a large degree,
until after He breaks that one all to pieces.
Joseph had more sorrow than all the other sons of Jacob,
and it let him out into a ministry of bread for all nations.
For this reason,
the Holy Spirit said of him.
“Joseph is a fruitful bough. .. by a well,
whose branches run over the wall” (Genesis 49:22).
It takes sorrow to widen the soul.~~The Heavenly Life.

Every person and every nation must take lessons
in God’s school of adversity.
“We can say, ‘Blessed is night, for it reveals to us the stars.’
In the same way we can say,
‘Blessed is sorrow , for it revels God’s comfort.’
The floods washed away home and mill,
all the poor man had in the world.
But as he stood on the scene of his loss,
after the water had subsided.,
broken-hearted and discouraged,
he saw something shining in the bank
which the waters had washed bare.
‘It looks like gold’, he said.
It was gold.
The flood which had beggared him made him rich.
So it is ofttimes in life.”~~H. C. Trumbull

Sunday Bible Reading – Matthew 6:25-34

KAL2012 002My yarn swift, one of my favorite knitting toys.

Good Morning

Matthew 6:25-34
Therefore I say unto you,
Take no thought for your life,
what ye shall eat,
or what ye shall drink;
nor yet for your body,
what ye shall put on.
Is not the life more than meat,
and the body than raiment?
Behold the fowls of the air:
for they sow not,
neither do they reap,
nor gather into barns;
yet your heavenly Father feedeth them.
Are ye not much better than they?
Which of you by taking thought
can add one cubit unto his stature?
And why take ye thought for raiment?
Consider the lilies of the field,
how they grow;
they toil not,
neither do they spin:
And yet I say unto you,
That even Solomon in all his glory
was not arrayed like one of these.
Wherefore,
if God so clothe the grass of the field,
which to day is,
and to morrow is cast into the oven,
shall he not much more clothe you,
O ye of little faith?
Therefore take no thought,
saying,
What shall we eat? or,
What shall we drink? or,
Wherewithal shall we be clothed?
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:)
for your heavenly Father knoweth
that ye have need of all these things.
But seek ye first the kingdom of God,
and his righteousness;
and all these things shall be added unto you.
Take therefore no thought for the morrow:
for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself.
Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Be fully assured that your heavenly Father knoweth. . .Today

FO Friday – A Hat and a Jar

fofriday4

In case you didn’t know FO stands for Finished Object. Tami lets finishers brag a little on her blog, by linking to her blog their pictures of FO’s. Click – to see finished fiber objects.

Friday afternoon I finished my KAL (knit along) hat; I was knitting with a group of nice ladies and Crissy, our fearless leader.

Feb113 kal hatMegan is modeling it. Aren’t those double cables something else!

kittens with mittens gave me the idea of saving yarn scraps in a jar.

Jan3113 scrap jar 002My jar on January 31, 2013. Isn’t it beautiful?

I did a lot of hat knitting in January and I frogged a pair of sox to remove worn heels, so my jar filled fast. (I’ll reknit the sox with shorter legs; I’ll like them better that way.)  I’m following my mother suggestion that I do a jar a month, instead of getting a larger jar and dumping all the scraps in one jar. I don’t expect February’s jar to be full. I have a baby blanket and two shawls that will be my focus this month.

Looking forward to more happy knitting in February!

February 2, Today’s thought – He That Goeth with Thee

Jan713 sky 9am 001The eastern sky at 9am one January morning,
a beautiful start of a new day.
“This is the day the Lord hath made, I will rejoice and be glad.”

Good Morning

Be strong and of a good courage,
fear not, nor be afraid of them;
for the Lord thy God ,
he it is that doth go with thee;
he will not fail thee,
nor forsake thee.
Deuteronomy 31:6

There is something very encouraging in the idea of a new start.
We should keep short accounts with God,
and live not only day by day but moment by moment.
This the staleness will disappear from life.
His mercies will be new new every morning,
and each experience will come to us like living waters
fresh from the fountains of his love and grace.
There is something most attractive in the idea of a new discovery,
an unexplored land,
a fresh advanced on new territory,
and new achievements.
How it lures the adventurer to the frigid zones,
and the dangerous tropics!
God has for each of us great and mighty things
which we know not,
and visions of truth and attainment which
“eye hath not seen nor ear heard,
neither hath it entered into the heart of man,
the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.”
Let us press farther on!
Dr. A. B. Simpson

Press on with the Lord. . . Today

February 1, Today’s thought – Bring Your Offering

Jan3113 kal hat 003Just a cozy ‘hairball’.

Ponderings on the lesson brought in the Thursday night meeting.

Deuteronomy 16:16-17 Three times in a year shall all thy males appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose; in the feast of unleavened bread, and in the feast of weeks, and in the feast of tabernacles: and they shall not appear before the LORD empty: Every man shall give as he is able, according to the blessing of the LORD thy God which he hath given thee.

Whenever we come together in the place God shall choose to worship Him, bring your offering of praise.

Psalms 70:4 Let all those that seek thee rejoice and be glad in thee: and let such as love thy salvation say continually, Let God be magnified.

If you are burdened and heavy with trials and situations of life and seem to have no praise. Don’t draw back from God, come near with your offering of submission to His perfect will.

1Peter 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:

Five Minute Friday – Afraid

5-minute-friday-1

“This is where a brave and beautiful bunch gather every week to find out what comes out when we all spend five minutes writing on the same topic and then sharing ‘em over here.” With Lisa

‘Writing for 5 minutes flat – no editing, no over thinking, no backtracking’ but I always check the spelling ( I have blame my mother for that quirk.

Prompt – AFRAID

I have been afraid of trying most of my life. As a teenager I didn’t try things for fear of how I would look, whether I could do it right or do it good enough.
I backed myself in a box.
As I grew older I would learn a skill, then degrade my abilities because I didn’t do it as well as someone else.
Then I took a basic accounting class at a junior college. We had recently started a business and I needed to brush up on my high school bookkeeping. I was 38 years old.
I got A’s on almost all of my work.
I looked at those grades.
I knew how much effort I put forth.
It was not 100% by any means.
I realized,
I was putting the bar of accomplishment ‘way higher than it needed to be.
I could do my skills well.
I was able to do ‘A’ work, I had proof.
I didn’t have to knock myself out to do it, either.
I didn’t have to be afraid to try.
I just had to be brave enough to try.
