Chatting on the Deck

“Chats on the Farmhouse Porch” is a group of friends
gathering to visit,
sip their favorite beverages,
nibble delicious treats
and share their likes and dislikes.

Patrice and Wendell have invited me to join the chatting.
Patrice provides the questions,
we answer.

QuestionsMelanie asks “What kinds of seafood have you tried and liked? What is the most unique seafood you’ve eaten?

I’m not very adventuresome when it comes to food. Red Snapper, tilapia, tuna, halibut, crab, shrimp, cod are my favorites. At a wedding reception in Hawaii, I was super encouraged, dared, it was insisted that I try the raw fish. I don’t know what kind it was. I wasn’t impressed.

Anne says, “An unforgettable holiday moment is_____________________. (She’s on the other side of that BIG pond. I believe a holiday is a vacation on this side. )

In 2007 the Farmer and I took a cross country road trip, 53 days long, visiting 32 states. One deadline – complete freedom. We loved every minute of it. Our dream is to do more traveling.

Arlene wants to know, “When was the last time you tried something new?”
I tried a new to me recipe last night ‘Barley, Peas, and Lentil Stew’ the Farmer is a vegetarian. I’m always on the look out for veg-recipes. It was good.

Becky asks, “Who or what inspires you?”
The Word of God, my mother and my children, all encourage me, You can do it!

Madonna wants to know,” How did you chose the names of your children. Wendell adds,”If you don’t have kids, how do you choose pet names?”
Daughter #1, praying I asked the Lord for a name my baby would like. “Mary Ruth”, but Lord I can’t name the baby that I’m going to have a boy! this was before untra-sounds.
Son #1, My choice Aaron Clifford; Clifford for my brother. Aaron looked so much like my brothers at birth, the Farmer didn’t want a Topper name, so he was named Aaron Howard, Howard after the Farmer’s father.
Daughter #2 Margaret Ellen, I was thinking after a favorite aunt. Later we found out it was the Farmer’s grandmother’s name also.
Son #2 Daniel Ripley, I just liked the name Daniel, Ripley is my mother’s maiden name.
Daughter #3 Dan and I read a book whose main character was Emily Susanne. So she is. (Picture of the 5 is in the previous post, ‘Ten on Tuesday’)

Ten on Tuesdays – Dreamin’

On Tuesday’s Carole hosts ‘Ten on Tuesdays’.
She chooses a topic – we list ten items.

10 Things You’d Do If You Won the Big Powerball Jackpot.

What a fun topic!
Not many of us could say
we haven’t dreamed of winning the big one.
Although not long ago I ask the Farmer
“what would you want to but if. . . ”
After a long pause he replied,
“Maybe a new tractor…”
I’m not that limited.

1. A substantial offering toward missionary work our church supports in Mexico, Cuba and different areas in Africa.

2. A chunk to each of the 5 children for paying off/buying the house and furnishing of their dreams. Or maybe we will seriously consider that family compound we’ve talked about.

2009 1226 (91)aAaron, Dan, Mary, Emily and Margaret

3. Trust funds for the 13 grandchildren to access at 30 years old.

2009 1226 (86)(opps! most current– 2 not present)

4. Funds for our mothers: the Farmer’s is 100yrs old in a nursing home; my mother is independent and healthy, but __?___ a month would go a long way toward easing financial needs.

5. A new tractor

6. A whole family vacation, that we’ll remember and talk and laugh about the rest of our lives.

7. Travel – – we have several trips we’ve been dreaming about

8. Remodel the caretaker’s house – possibly will be our home in the future

9. Increase our monthly income by $2000. a month (we are retired with SS plus occasional part-time income).

10. A Hyundai Genesis for me.

“Be grateful for the home you have, knowing that at this moment,
all you have is all you need”. I believe this with all my heart.

March 26, Today’s thought –Figured Out?

Mar 22 13 mt shastaOur view of Mt Shasta, March 22, 2013

Good Morning

Have you got God figured out?
Get ready, you may be in for a surprise.
Hear the rocks meant
for the body of the adulterous woman drop to the ground.
Listen as Jesus invites
a death-row convict to ride with Him to the Kingdom
in the front seat of the limo.
Listen as the Messiah whispers to the Samaritan woman,
“I who speak to you am He.”
And listen to the surprise
as Mary’s name is spoken by a man she had buried.

God appearing in the strangest of places.
Doing the strangest of things.
Stretching smiles where there had hung only frowns.
Hanging a bright star in a dark sky.
Many more knees will bow.
And many more seekers will celebrate.

“For no eye has seen, no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived what God
has prepared for those who love Him!”
1 Corinthians 2:9

Accept God’s Preparation . . Today
With my prayers, desiring yours, Leslie
