On My Mind — Zucchini Bread

I am thinking about this Zucchini bread I made last week. Two loaves went with me to my family’s early in December Christmas Dinner.  They liked it. One was eaten and the other stayed with the hostess. The third loaf is on its way to Idaho to join some dear ones who are like family in my heart. (She is the sister I never had.)

On my mind — A Finished Log Cabin

A few weeks back ‘on my mind’ was this log cabin quilt in progress. I finished hand sewing the binding on November 28, 2011. It is off my to finish list and is now check off as a Christmas gift for a grandson.

My daughter, Emily, does all my quilting on our long arm quilting machine.

Also on the finished list is this log cabin afghan, I made to try the knitting strips of color, binding that strip off, and picking up stitches on another side to knit another strip of color. I liked doing it as it is one of those projects that don’t take a lot of concentration. This one, too, is check of the Christmas gift list for another grandson.

I’m joining others with things on their minds here:

This is Tilly.

She is a miniature doxie mix.

She is my mother’s companion.

She gets cold when they go on their daily walk.

I finally finished knitting her sweater.

Mom added elastic around the neck and back ruffle to keep out the breezes.

On My Mind — Fresh Eggs

On my mind …

We have one rooster, 3 bantams, and 22 hens.

These hard working hens give us on average 15 eggs a day.

We enjoy watching the chickens.
Eating fresh eggs is just an added benefit.

On My Mind — The First Quilt

This is a Friday photo feature that anyone with a blog can join. To take part, post a photo on your own blog, write a short caption explaining it, and link it back to here

This is the first quilt I made. I remember starting it when my mother was making for quilt for one of my brothers. She was doing a nine patch, I was sewing squares together. The year1960 0r ’61, I was 11 or 12.

First Quilt 12″ x 15″ all cotton

I don’t remember when I finished it, as with alot of my starts they rest in a box for a while before being completed.

This my treasure was found when we were moving some of the last of our things out of the house we had loved and lived in for the past 15 years. I have good memories of this first quilt, and good memories of the many quilts made on Lincoln Avenue.

We have been in our new home a year and thankfully quilts have grown here also.

On My Mind – The beginning, the ending and the beginning again

On my mind …

I’ve been thinking about this for several days every time I look out at the garden. Here in California, September is the beginning of fall and the garden shows its age.
May I show you what I see:
Sunflowers- June 22
today
Cucumbers June 22
Today
Tomatoes  June 22
Today
As I wandered around to the back of the tomatoes and cucumbers, I found this new beginning;
Beets, carrots, spinach, and turnips
Through all the starts and stops, this Farmer is still found on his knees.
To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die;
a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;

On my mind – Finishing

On Friday DOWN TO EARTH shares what’s on her mind and
asks what’s on your mind?

This quilt is ‘on my mind.’

I pieced  this flannel quilt for my great-niece, McKenna.

My  goal for today: bind McKenna’s quilt.

Auntie Em did the beautiful quilting.

Postscript – Friday, 8:40pm, PDST   —   DONE!

On My Mind – Working on a log cabin

It’s Friday and I’m linking up with Down to Earth sharing a picture of what’s been on my mind.

Last week I sent helping family recovering from surgery, I took my log cabin pieces with me and set up cabin raising. I was able to finish half the blocks I need and get started on the second half. This half will have blue chimney squares, I hoping to get a secondary pattern with using different colors. I’m sure the log cabin will be on my mind again.

On my Mind – A Finished Project

On my mind this week, I finished another quilt project! Maybe it should be off my mind now.

I joined a Kaye England quilt group this spring. This quilt is the fourth project in the series. I used a different method of making the flying geese from what the pattern showed;  and in doing the figuring I made 2 geese  to a 6 inch square instead of 3 geese to a four inch square ( my brain did a flip and I didn’t even notice until I was putting the blocks together). My quilt looked very different from all the others. It is bright and colorful using Kaye England’s fabrics and will be just right for a new baby born 4 days before my birthday.

On My Mind — Family, July 29, 2011

On my mind:  Tonight is Family Night. Once a month all the children and grandchildren (that are able) get together for dinner, games,    birthday and anniversary celebrations, songs, thankfuls and devotions.

Thankfuls means everyone tells us three things they are thankful for, it must be something different from what has already been mentioned. Because of differences, one family wasn’t meeting with the rest for several years, when we united again, one grandson didn’t know how to express the word thankful.  He was told to tell of three things he liked or was happy about. Now you should see him, He can hardly contain himself for the happiness he shows when it is his turn to be thankful.

The Grands

The Children and my Mother and her Tilly and us (top row left).

We feel so blest. We all support each other. We all like each other. We are a family.

On My Mind. . .did you ever build a log cabin?

July 22, this is my first time linking to this blog, the blogist (is that a word, am I the first to make it up?) lives in Australia. It is fun to read about different happenings because of different seasons.

I’ve copied her guidelines, hope I get it right!

On my mind …

It opens the door to us sharing our lives through these photos and gives us all a new way to discover each other, and maybe form new friendships. Your photo should show something at home that you’re thinking about TODAY. If you’re in another country you should join in when you read this, even if it’s still Thursday.
To take part, all you have to do is post a photo on your own blog, write a short caption explaining it, and link it back to here. Please write a new post, don’t link to an older one. When your photo is published, come back and add a comment below, with a link to your blog photo so we can all find you. Please visit all the blogs that appeal to you and leave a comment. Slow down, take the time to cruise around and enjoy your cyber visits.

This year I joined the Kaye England, bread & butter society. Yule Logs is the 5th quilting project. SEE my pile of logs!  1 1/2 inch strips, darks and lights, red and blue chimneys, mostly 1800 reproduction fabrics.

May be on a future “On my mind” I’ll have a finished quilt.
